Thought I'd start this thread and see what people think in relation to their own golf game.

Since last year I have been playing off a handicap of 10. I have an all round ok golf game and am well able to play to 10 or at least remain within the Bufferzone at my home course and when I'm away if I get used to a course I can pretty much get round in a respectable score.

Anyway while I have been able to get around to my handicap I have lately felt that I will never make get my game to where I know I can get it. I try keep records of most of my rounds (or atleast do a quick analysis of them) and I found that I was averaging under 30 putts a round, getting up and down out of most bunkers, Hitting 50% of fairways but hitting only 2-5 greens in regulation:eek:. This shocked me as Its not something that jumped out at me on the course.

Before now I've only had time to get playing on every 2nd or 3rd weekend and I hadnt hit a ball in competition before the middle of February so I really hadnt been playing regularly however in the coming months I will more than likely have more than enough time to spend working on my golf game.(thanks mr economy!:)) With this in Mind I went for a lesson with the pro who has taught me since I was a nipper. To start off with he asked me how I was hitting it and Asked me to hit 3 balls. He told me straight away that I was only hitting at most 6 greens in regulation a round (Before I could even tell him!)

My intention, with my impending free time is to Get my Game into a tidy state and with that my handicap should reduce. I know that I can play to a higher standard than my scores are reflecting at the moment and WIth the help of the local pro I will get things in order. He suggested that I work over the next few months on getting my swing in order so as to allow me be far more consistant in my shots. He got me to swing the club on a better plane, Keep my right hip from collapsing on my back swing and shorten my swing by a quarter. All in all I only hit about 6 balls during the lesson as much of the time was spent getting me into the right positions on the back swing. Yesterday evening I played a few holes, not worrying about where the ball went (well so long as it stayed in Play!), with the one intention of swinging the club as I had been shown. Despite it being quite uncomfortable at first, and some muscles in my back being used for the first time in ages, the quality of the strike and the shots I was hitting was 100% better. I wasnt trying to do anything with the ball in terms of Control however I know that When it comes to it, I will know exactly what I'm going to do with the golf ball as opposed to previously just hoping for the best!

I thought it'd be interesting to hear if any other boardies have had similar experiences in getting to their next step and how they have found the journey. If anyone is doing similar and want to use this thread as a kind of log then feel free. (Sorry if there is already a similar thread as this, I dont think there is though)

I'm at 26 presently and have been working out in the gym and with a pro for the last few weeks
have a halfday workshop booked at the pga national as well

i like you have parked the need for 300 yard drives for now, instead concentrating on getting my swing in order
most of the time i hit a 7 iron off the tee - having played twice a week for the last while i feel i am making solid progress, a real crisp touch as i put the ball into orbit

plan is to be playing off around 16 by october if possible
i too will keep you all posted of developments
what a fabulous idea for a thread

Me too, had to stop myself......

Blunder, keep up the good work, it will pay off in time. You play off 10 so you have proven ability.
