Favourite justifications for eating junk.

Ok so we all (well most of us) indulge in junk food, crisps, chocolate etc from time to time but I love hearing the excuses that some of my girlfriends and I use to try to justify eating it and to make ourselves feel better about it.

    Some examples:

    - It doesn't count in someone elses house / didn't buy it yourself.
    - It doesn't count when you're on holidays.

But my favourite rationalisation by my friend when eating a mint Aero:

    - sure it's mostly mint! :D

Anyone got any more excuses to take away the junk food guilt??

    Three classics I use;

It's winter, and my body needs more calories to survive in this cold.

I have my period and will make up for it the rest of the month.

It's good for my mental health.

That stress induced adrenaline will burn it off, much as it increases your blood pressure :D

When I am sick (as in sick nauseous/throwy uppy) I only eat food I really really like.

Its ok I broke the biscuit in half before I ate it so the calories escaped

Um... it tastes good and I want to? I don't find myself needing any other justification :D

Cadbury's Fruit & Nut bar instead of the milk chocolate one --> fruit + nuts = good for you :)

Dark chocolate has lots of antioxidants :)

The veg and tomato sauce on the pizza counts towards my 5-a-day :)

Generally, it's just "because I felt like it". :)

Others include "sure I'm going for a run later" (generally true, running 5 days a week at the moment), and "it's only a little one" - I've a bad habit of eating lots of different lower-calorie snacks rather than one big blowout.

    :D:D Kudos

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I can't be left alone with chocolate or ice cream.

I ate an entire half a vanilla vienetta today. That's like, a whole half a foot of ice cream.

Yesterday I got one of those chocolating things from tesco-- ate half of that, too.

Easter day I ate an entire giant snickers egg plus the two bars, and the day after an entire giant maltesers egg and two packets of maltesers.

I can't control myself, if I know there's chocolate or ice cream in the house, I WILL eat it. So I generally don't keep it around, ever. This is the first time in aaaaaaaaages there's been chocolate or ice cream around. Normally I eat healthily (or at least, not chocolate!)

Stems from growing up one of those uberskinny kids who couldn't put on weight no matter how hard I tried, I remember being able to eat entire tubs of ice cream all to myself and never worry.. things have changed now and my metabolism is out to get me, and it's one heck of a hard habit to break! It's a wonder I'm not a tank... :(

My excuse is just "ah sure I'll go for a walk into town later, 30 minutes there and back, i'll be grand.."

..never usually end up going though.

Tell me about it. I thought I escaped puberty relatively unscathed...but no, I'm actually putting on weight now when I eat crap. 'Tis sh1te.

That would be rude. Its just good manners to eat the lot.

I have a 'reduced-fat Friday' rule. Everything on a Friday is reduced fat, so its reasonable to indulge.

Of course, the reduced fat rule applies to everything, whether reduced or not!

Lol, I don't have to justify it to myself but sometimes I jokingly do.
    Such as
'there's only 3biscuits left, no point leaving 1 or 2'
sharing with someone relieves the guilt, I always do that with my mother 'do *you* want some chocolate' :D
or 'pfft, sure I could do with a bit of weight' (possibly true!! lol)
or 'sure it;s early i'll burn it off later'

I'm past thirty so I don't need to wear skinny jeans.

I'm playing football on Wednesday/Saturday so a packet of crisps won't hurt.

I have to try all those new walkers flavours because only one will win and remain and I can say I ate Builder's Breakfast flavoured crisps to my kids.

I am defying the meaningless bourgeois mores of Easter by eating all my kid's surplus present eggs before the actual day.

See above, but add fatuous excuse about not letting son have too much chocolate.

I have to eat something sweet after I have something savory and vice versa so It goes like this crisps, chocolate, crisps, chocolate, crisps, chocolate.....mmmm someone has me craving a mint aero now :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 716 ✭✭✭lemon_sherbert

    It's negative calories on holidays
It has to be tolerated during revision, leads to more relaxation, hence better exam results
Chewing vigorously uses up the calories:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭Sinall

    My favourite justifications include:

If you are eating standing up then the calories don't count.

Likewise, if you are eating out of the packet or whilst walking.

Oh and if you eat fruit after eating junk they cancel each other out so it's like you ate nothing!!

If I want it, I eat it. I only eat dark chocolate, never milk, so I never feel bad about that. It's impossible to eat more than two squares of dark chocolate at a time.

The trick, I find, is to try not to want junk all the time but to want something else nice, like wholegrain toast and hummus.

I'm suffering from PMT and will be in a better mood if I eat chocolate etc.
I am trying to gain weight.
I am trying for a baby and need to put on weight.
I have a small stomach and need to eat calorie dense foods (sadly true).
    I like chocolate.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,488 ✭✭✭pikachucheeks

    1)I'll start my diet tomorrow...

2)I should eat it - I need it for a balanced diet!

    3)I'm not THAT allergic...!

    This thread reminds me of that Fat Fighters sketch in Little Britain;

"If you cut it in half, there's half the calories! And because there's half the calories, you can have twice as much!"
    :D

Oooohhh you just reminded me about the tub i bought on Saturday thats still in The freezer. I'll eat that tonight, coz it's depressing Monday. hahaha.

But that easter egg one is so true. I'm supposed to be being good this week but i cant because i still have a full Galaxy egg at home. i better eat that first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,150 ✭✭✭✭Malari

If you eat parts of the mixture/ingredients while you are cooking or baking then it doesn't count.

Sometimes then you can refuse a slice of the finished product because you've had enough during the manufacture, thus placing the guilt on others, who will therefore have smaller "guilt slices" and ultimately more will be left for yourself. ;)

    Shazam!

Bread is just raw toast, so by putting it in the toaster and covering it with real butter I'm helping it along the way to achieving it's destiny.
