its advertised at 12,500, but bearing in mind im a cash buyer with the money in my pocket, would this be a ggood deal to buy?

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/BMW/1-Series/120d-Spo/200913192258608/advert

mileage is high, but full history and i wouldnt be adding too much to it (5k per year)

It's got an uprated stereo, and bluetooth. 2 must haves! There's also get remapping potential in the engine. Honestly, you couldn't go wrong - you're getting a pocket rocket with RWD, but bear in mind there's a 116d coming this year, which will have a new price point of about 27k, so it will have a knock on effect on the one you're looking at.

I'd bid 10.5/11 if I was looking at it.

two must haves on my cars are remap and hands free, and yes this has the bluetooth factory fitted which is a bonus and the upgraded hi-fi too which although not harmon kardon, it should still be a decent upgrade from the standard.

its a genuine sport spec from 2005, different seats and the 17" wheels too.

remap from www.autoremap.ie at €300 would yield about 200bhp iirc.

also at this price, hopefully the new 116d wont have too much of a bearing on resale (hope to keep it for 2 years)

would the milegae put you off?

Its obviously coming off of Contract Hire, more than likely with a Maintenance contract attached too, so i'd say all of the mileage is accounted for with a decent lump of a service history.

I reckon Ned has it about right. Try 10.5k and see where it goes.

Mate of mine just sold an 05 116i for 13k cash - In my opinion this one here is a nicer car - if you got it for 11k and maybe spent a bit on a leather fit out, it would be a lovely car.

Be warned though the sport suspension, low profiles and (not sure if applicable) run flats will mean terrible ride comfort so..

    1. Get a good spin in it and see if you can live with it.
    2. And maybe more important, Check interior trim for creeks when driving at town speeds on rough routes - high miles and hard sprung will cause lots of little rattles even in something as well screwed together as a Beemer and low speed is where it will show ( and annoy most if you live in the city )

from the pictures it seems the last stamp in the book is different to the the other joe duffy stamps.the odometer reading on the one above is also higher(i assume km's). . if it is not an official bmw stamp you'll have trouble verifying the mileage between when it was last serviced at a bmw dealer and now.

yeah spoke to my mate in M&G and he said exactly the same thing. from the pictures too it looks as if it has a full history.

was thinking about the leather option, i may pick an interier pack up from a crashed yoke if i do buy it but it depends on the condition and feel of the cloth seats tbh.

have read a bit of the dash and interier creaking, so will look out for it.

if it has the full history, would the mileage be a put off?

Not at all. Bring the key to any BMW Dealer, they'll be able to put it in the key reader to verify the mileage in an instant. Besides, if there's a full service history up as far as x, and the stamp in the logbook for the non-BMW service is x+1, there's a fair possibility that the log is 99% accurate.

i noticed that too, i will examine the service booklet myself when i go to view it and confirm through the BMW network.

EDIT : just talking to Joe Duffy BMW and they confirmed that the car had everything done with them and would class it as an execellent axample and well maintained car.

the last service in the book is at 97,612 miles and the one above it is 105,947km so that explains the different figures. the most recent service was done on 10-03-2009 at an independants. so all seems to check up.

im liking this car more and more now.

the key synchronises itself with the mileage stored in the differnet locations onboard..if they have been reset the reading off the key will only return these values

it doesnt, BMW's store the mileage in 3 different locations is what i was told in Frank Keanes when i was getting my old X5 serviced. anyway, the mileage has been confirmed so no issues there.

Funny how the much maligned 1 series at the right price suddenly looks so appealing! I like it too.

All I can add to this is that it's a fantastically fun car to drive, even with the crap 1600 engine, so this should be a blast. I almost miss my old one.

Haines Fleet were formally Velo Ireland - Part of BMW and were based out of the Joe Duffy building.

I'd say that has been serviced on schedule with no expense spared throughout it's life so should be no worries with that mileage.

    thanks.

also is there anything that should be replaced at this mileage or anything that is approaching the end of its life as such??? ie bushings shocks etc etc?

I would change the water pump, T-stat and check all hoses for wear. BMW cooling systems need TLC.

My cousin drives one of these (female, but she is a hell of a good pilot). I've driven it loads of times including from Dublin to Kerry and they are a brilliant drive, plenty of power with the rear wheel drive and your looking at 50mpg with a reasonable right shoe.
