Handicap question

    Hypothetical handicap adjustment question here.

In my club some of the members singles are run over the whole weekend, starting Friday.

Say I played on Friday and return a score that I know will result in a handicap adjustment but I dont know what adjustment as the competition doesnt close until Sunday and hence CSS isn't known until then.

If I play on Saturday/Sunday do I play off my handicap from before Fridays round ? I assume I must as I cant adjust when I dont know what to, or am I incorrect ?

    PK

odd one because if it's the same comp over three days you shouldn't technically be allowed play twice. would be like coming in and going back out again in a one day comp.

unless it's a re-entry which may make it legit to play twice.

regardless, if it is the same comp, your h'cap cant change mid comp so no need to adjust at all til monday.

like in a two day captain's prize. day 1 you shoot a score that cuts you a shot, day 2, you still play off your starting h'cap.

    make sense?

    Yup that makes sense.
How about if I play in a Open comp elsewhere on the Sunday after playing in my club comp on Friday/Saturday - something I would quite often do.
    Any difference there ?

yep that's different. we've had this before. you need to cut yourself, i know that much. in practice, i would see what my cut would be based on sss. if it was say, 4.5, id err on the side of caution and cut myself to 4. if it was 4.9 based on sss i'd feel safe that there wouldn't be an insane css so i'd play off 5 in the open.

if you get it wrong by cutting too low, you are not dq'd but your score is off that h'cap. if you guess wrong and too high, you are dq'd.

this is my practical way of doing it in the absence of an obvious by-the-book solution.

imo the root of the problem is your club not calculating css after each day.

That seems like a reasonable approach, makes sense.
Should clubs actually have a CSS per day of comp ?

absolutely! lots of people play twice a weekend, often in two different clubs.

happened me in the captains last year run over two saturdays. cut in round 1, played an open on the wednesday a shot lower. then played round 2 off a shot higher. then played the next morning off 2 shots lower ;)

As far as I know you should cut yourself but not give youself a 0.1 back (may be more relevant in your case PK :) )

Always go on the lower side.

Safer to play off a shot lower than not, saves been DQ.

    sounds absolutely crackers to me

what if a guy has 39pts....... no wind, sunshine etc
next day 39pts .................howling gales and p1ssing rain

    ye both get cut equally

    daft

css should be for each day and should be available for a previous days golf the following morning,

Quick question guys. I had 40points today (i believe SSS is about 36-37) in a society outing. I checked with the committee and they said they'd forward the card to my home club. Will I get cut for this or will it go down as a "Notable Score" and then if I do well in a 4 ball/team event etc i'll get cut on general play?

Also Monthly Medal Tomorrow, Do I need to cut myself before going out tomorrow?

Yes, the rule used to be that you get cut for society scores. Now though, just make sure your handicap sec has the card in his hands prior to the medal. There is no automatic cut. The only way your handicap will change if the h'cap sec notifies you or posts it on the board.

I say you are one of the few who would do this.

I was hazard a guess most people who have official GUI report back to their club with cuts from society scores

    fair play
