Suggestions for new wheels for my commuter...

The wear indictor on my front is gone, and the back is not too far behind, so it's time for a new wheelset for my commuter. Looking for the usual holy grail of price vs quality. Ideally looking to spend less than 170 euro or thereabouts for the set (shimano btw).

    Some options :
    Mavic aksiums (2008 = £135 or 2009 = £162)
    FSA RD60 £112
    Fulcrum 7s £134.09

Any others in that sort of price category to mention?
It's a red bike, so the red fulcrums might be a nice option? (How's the euro police on that?)
    Cheers
    K

I have the Fulcrum 7s on my older bike. Nice wheel, have em with black spokes on a red bike BTW.

I think the bike originally had the Mavic Aksiums when I got it, which were fine, but I prefer the Fulcrums for no apparant reason.

    Never used the FSA stuff.

On my commuting fixie I have Alex DA22 I think (very dirty, can't read the rim wall)

Last October I bought Mavic Open Pros, DT Swiss Competition Spokes, and Tiagra Hubs for ~€150 from Wiggle.

The rear needed new barings about a month ago but I blame power washing and cycling in the snow. Super tough wheels. Just think of the Paris-Roubaix cobbles and Irish roads!

It has DA22s on it now as it happens, but they're 2 years old, which isn't bad I suppose.

@KenMC: it's probably really really wrong to have wheels called "Racing" on your commute bike. However, if you are happy to live with that stigma then more power to you.

No such thing as overkill :)

The 'racing' will only be visible the odd time I wash the bike, so I could probably live with that :)

They're not available as a set now, so it'd be £200 for the pair. Bit too high.

M:Wheel Shimano Tiagra/Mavic Open Sport Front Wheel €61.78
M:Wheel Shimano Tiagra/Mavic Open Sport Rear Wheel €90.15

Did you get Open PRO or Open SPORT?

    Sorry Sorry Sorry Sorry.

I got the Open Pros back when they were a lot cheaper! Maybe it was pre Irish VAT on thei site.

It was either these or a set of Aksium's at the time. I was sick and tired of breaking a spoke every month.
