I read recently that the car auctions are literally giving the cars away on behalf of the finance and leasing companies who are taking them back at a rate of knots. Trying getting hold of one though....

I heard of a guy a few weeks ago who bought a 06 Range Rover with low mileage at the auctions for less than 30 grand. I keep an eye on Merlin, Naas Road etc but I never see the higher end cars for sale. Am I missing something or are these just urban myths?

A guy down in Galway told me that he was offered a 06 BMW 730 diesel with reasonable mileage for less than 20 grand....

One thing I find is that when I've cash in my hand like I do now, I can't get these deals!!!

The dealers of course are still on acid with their prices.....denial, denial......

its alot of bull**** i think. I went to merlin auction to see these great deals and found that the good nearly new stuff was making nearer to retail price than Ive ever seen before. Example, an 08 bmw 520d se sold for 32,700 iirc Add 1500 plus buyers fee and its getting very close to what they could be had for on carzone at that time. Lots of other stuff there being sold for banks didnt make reserve even though bidding was decent. The banks were certainly not giving them away. I think there are now so many private buyers at the auction that the prices are creeping up towards retail price specially on newish stuff that will still have the manufacturers warranty.

You can watch merlin auction live online on wednesdays & saturdays to get an idea of pricing

cheers Mick...the on-line auction is a good idea...I think that there's been so much press about car auctions and Merlin that you're probably right...for sure though the banks have to be hurting with all the stock coming back at them...

As usual, it's the joe punter who's always last man to get a deal...

Ever find the car you're selling isn't worth sh!te but the one you're buying is worth every penny....car dealers, estate agents....enough said...

I'll keep hunting and post up anything of interest....
