Im not just a fan of "smear" type videos for Fedor as it is just unnecessary he doesnt need the help his fights and rep speaks for itself.

Fedor currently isn't well known in America, and here in Ireland most casual fans of MMA only know about the UFC and buy into Dana White's nonsense that Fedor isn't the top guy in MMA right now. UFC is a marketing machine. Fedor's a free agent, more or less. If he went to the UFC, people would know about him.

So smear-type videos are the only sort of video that can be used to promote Fedor? There's other ways

Nice find monkey balls, near the end the picture of dana as a clown thats the image i see of him whenever he speaks because he makes himself out to be clown most of the time. Before the Fedor Arlovski fight he said the one fighter he really wanted to resign was Arlovski and look what happened there.
Never was he in trouble in that fight. The man still has to be even put on 1 knee from a punch. and keep em comin, never mind the other tripe.

What did happen? Arlovski's still under contract to Affliction, the UFC can't do anything

old but still funny. Kinda serves dana right..his whole approach to the Fedor situation leaves him open to this kind of thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 124 ✭✭agardiner22

Dana was saying it because he liked Arlovski and he thought he left the UFC too soon and was sure he was gonna beat Fedor, he was believing his own BS and we all know what happened, if Affliction folded in the morning Dana would be trying to resign Arlovski no doubt.

Smear type? Lol. Get over it, man. It's called humour. Dana does enough laughable trash talk to deserve this kind of video.

Fujita came close to knocking out Fedor, and the Randleman slam was pretty fuking intense - broke two of Fedor's ribs, luckily not his neck. Besides that, Hunt did a good job avoiding Fedor's submissions, but Fedor has dominated everyone else. Anyone who disagrees that he's not the #1 heavyweight is simply a mongoloid.

True. To be fair though, he's just protecting his business. He knows Fedor is the best - he's not stupid.

    Pick one or the other

If he's going to say Fedor is "fat and out of shape", that he's "not the best fighter out there and is probably at a buffet somewhere in Russia", that he's "over rated and hasn't fought anybody", it's pretty funny when someone makes a video pointing out his idiocy.

You can protect your business in more subtle ways. In fairness he is trying to protect his business; he's not doing it out of sheer spite. This is what happens - you get pwned for it, when you take it too far. He knows this. He's willing to take that, because he knows the average MMA fan is an unthinking retard who will soak up anything the UFC says.

So it's not a matter of "pick one or the other" - one leads to the other, in this case.

I thought your protect your business line was about maintaining leverage in future negotiations with Fedor.

I truely dispute this point that the average MMA fan is an unthinking retard. This type of thinking is very Sherdogesque. MMA's demographics in North America arent on your side.

Let's be honest. Not everyone who supports MMA is doing so for the love of its technicality. Many are just in it for random violence. Joe Rogan has pointed this out a few times. When you watch someone like Lyoto Machida fight and he's so elusive and technical, the fans in the audience boo and get pissy, because they want to see brutal knockouts and aggression.

"Average" would not be the right word. I'll amend it to "large amount".

I've spoken to many MMA fans, and a lot of them are douchebags.

For example, a lot of them don't know who Fedor is, because they only watch the UFC. They know only what Dana tells them, and hence "Fedor sucks".

They probably can't stand it that Fedor is better than Lesnar, Mir, Nog, Couture, Overeem, Cro Cop, and basically every other heavyweight fighter that they support.

I am not sure why not knowing who Fedor is makes you a Douchebag, but apparently it does......

Alot of hardcore fans seem to have issues with fans who are new to the sport, and dont know the history, or fighters outside the UFC. This confuses me, as more people following the sport can only be a good time. Especially as it means that more fighters can actually train full time, and support families.

Erm UFC's oldest fans the ones who wax lyrical about its technicality more than likely got into it for the violence as that is what the UFC was originally marketed it as. There is a learning curve involved it is hardly an immediate sport is it?

Going by crowd reactions to his last few fights fans are quickly catching on to his style of fighting it seems. Which would once again point to the fact that there is a learning curve.

    1. Not all of them. I was put off by its violence initially, but only grew to enjoy it when I saw how aesthetically pleasing it is.

    2. Machida's last fight was on the offensive; he scored a KO in the first round.

    3. I have.

    4. I've never been on Sherdog.

Still there is a learning curve and a steep one at that.

Only random act of violence i have ever seen in a cage/ring was in one of the final cage rage events when Baroni just beat this guy and his cornerman came in and tried to butt baroni

    1. No. I said people who say "Fedor sucks" exemplify their douchebaggery.

    3. He's starting to establish himself, I guess.

Anyway - does anyone here think Fedor is NOT the number one heavyweight?

I can understand and empathise with people who say he's not the #1 pfp, but anyone who thinks there are better heavyweights are simply retarded.

Yeah the WWE fans refuse to believe it.

Yeah the WWE fans refuse to believe it.

And where would these WWE fans thinking this be exactly? This is again more of the same insular US vs Them attitude. If you took a poll at a site were MMA & Pro Wrestling was covered Fedor would crush Lesnar in a poll of who would win I’ve seen such polls in the past on places like F4WOnline. On that site in particular and I’m sure a few others will vouch for this I’ve never read anyone make the case for Lesnar beyond him having a (punchers) chance and presenting some challenges that Fedor hasn’t really come against to that degree. I’ve never read anyone seriously out and out favour Brock in that potential fight.

I don't see what WWE fans have to do with it. A lot of MMA fans seem not to realise that a lot of WWE fans still resent Brock for walking out on them

If someone were to think that Brock's the top heavyweight then in most cases they've probably never seen Fedor. I wouldn't blame them for that though, he's only been on tv once over here and not a whole lot more in the US, and the places were he has been talked about on tv are the sort of shows that don't attract the casual MMA fan. The UFC's tremendously effective marketing department is to blame for it all, not the people themselves

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,803 ✭✭✭dunkamania

I dont think you can blame the UFC for their marketing efforts. Fault lies with their competitors, and lack of marketing prowess

There are noobs out there who see Brock and think "Brock SMMAASSSHHHH" and Fedor would be blown out of the water. Remember Kimbo Slice? People were saying Kimbo could beat Fedor. I remember someone saying Kimbo would "destroy dat fat fuk". When Seth Petruzelli ktfo of Kimbo they still had excuses.

If Fedor were to sign with the UFC, Dana would instantly market him as the best pfp that ever lived. People would know who he is then. But that probably will never happen. Still, I hear Fedor's people are beginning to market him more now in the US.

I dont agree with that, everyone knows the best HW competition for him is in the UFC. Obviously Dana is gonna big up his organisation but i believe that if Fedor did come to the UFC he would not walk through the division like some people believe!

Who poses a threat to Fedor? Mir? Lesnar?

Fedor would have no trouble dispatching them. But anything can happen. Fedor will lose eventually.

Arlovski was winning. But it was only 3 minutes into it. Fedor cuts easily, and there wasn't a mark on him after the fight. Barely anything Arlovski threw connected - except the leg kicks.

I think Fedor knew he had a glass jaw and relied on a KO - which worked.

Both of them yes,but before he even got to them I believe he would struggle to get past Shane Carwin or Cheick Kongo

I think the odds tip towards Lesnar as time goes on, as Fedor is becoming increasingly disinterested in MMA, and Lesnar is getting better. I dont think Mir would last long against Fedor. I dont see how Carwin or Knogo would give him much of a fight.
