It's good to have some positive headlines like this in the news!

    From irishtimes.com:
The ESB is set to create up to 3,700 contract jobs as part of a stimulus plan based around renewable energy.
New staff will be hired on a contract basis for specific projects and will not become direct ESB employees.
As part of the scheme 800 apprentices will be trained over the next five years, including 400 FÁS apprentices who lost their jobs in the slump.
ESB chief executive Pádraig McManus said the investment plans would have no price impact for domestic or commerical customers.
He said the developments would create 3,700 new jobs, sustain a further 1,300 exisiting staff posts and involve hiring apprentices and engineers. “Overall the package involves around 6,000 jobs”, he told RTÉ Radio One this afternoon.

    And this from breakingnews.ie
Dundrum Town Centre will create 104 jobs over the coming two months, it has been announced today.

Two new tenants have opened their outlets, and additional five new tenants are set to begin trading withing the next two months.

The Butcher’s Block has opened its doors providing customers with best quality and cuts of Irish-produced meat. Douglas and Kaldi Terrace Café & Restaurant has also opened on Level 2, providing full table service and terraced seating to customers.

Celebrity favourite fashion brand Lipsy is set to be established on Level One, with the eagerly-awaited H&M Kids store on Level 3.

Chaplain’s, a convenient one-stop-shop for shoe repairs, key cutting, dry-cleaning and men’s suit hire will open in May and be located in a large unit on the Sandyford Road, which has also set to welcome EducoGym, the innovative sports and leisure centre, to the retail area.

Dundrum Town Centre most recently announced the opening of Gap’s first Irish standalone store to the Centre, opening in May. The Dundrum Gap store will be 8,000 square feet over two floors, housing the women’s, men’s, GapKid’s and babyGap collections.

Delighted that some of the FAS apprentices will be taken back, first time I've heard news about jobs being created in a long time!

It's not depressing or a pointless rant, get it out of AH!

I wonder if the 3,700 contract jobs will actually be contracted to Irish companies. I know that the last time there was a major upgrade to ESB's infrastructure the contracts went to German companies.

Didn't Dundrum's H&M already have a Kids section? Another one?

it did but they've taken that out and extended their mens/womens section and they've put in a brand new standalone kids store.

Great news that there are jobs on the way. They're certainly needed.

IIRC Liffey Valley is planning a huge expansion as well, creating something like 2000 jobs
