Another two nights of Wico to look forward too, i'm a very happy man. They rocked last time. I happen to be in Seville for a wedding in May and there playing a festivel there while i'm there. Now i'll get too see them three times this summer, my girlfriend thinks i'm starting to obsess about them.

I know nobody is psychic, but based on previous shows how quickly do y'all think these tickets will sell out? Would it be a bad idea to wait a while before buying?

Have a good few gigs coming up, and I wouldn't mind holding off on the cost of this till next month.

I'd say you'd be ok til next month to wait, probably longer.

So i went to see Wilco is Seville last friday, they were as great as ever. The new stuff sounds great and they played a good slice of the songs, every album was represented. I also got a really nice t-shirt :D Roll on vicor street.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

A little off topic i know but a new thread would be over the top.

Jay Bennett (Wilco 94 -2001) passed away at the end of May. Any wilco fans will know the massive contribution he gave to the albums that came out in his years there. He also has a string of solo albums. The man was an amazing musician and needs to be remembered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭larrykinney

He sure was...Summerteeth was my introduction to Wilco, I love that album. The movie 'I am trying to break your heart', about the recording of 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' dealt with how he and Tweedy fell out, I think he was a bit hard done by...RIP, buddy :(

Still...I can't wait for the end of August :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,478 ✭✭✭Bubs101

Not sure if anyone's seen it yet but Blitzen Trapper are supporting both nights and they're last album is pretty damn good. According to wiki, Rolling stone voted it the 13th best album of last year. Be the first time I'll have ever seen Wilco with decent support

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,417 ✭✭✭Miguel_Sanchez

I was looking forward to a great triple bill of gigs at the end of August:

    Thursday - Faith No More
    Friday - Wilco
    Saturday - Redneck Manifesto/Bats

Unfortunately I've had to swap my Faith No More tickets to get some Pixies ones. However Wilco will still be brilliant and couple that with the double bill of Redneck Manifesto and Bats album launches the next day and it's going to be a heck of a pre-Picnic weekend!

Will definitely check out Blitzen Trapper too before the gig.

    Howdee,

I'm driving up from the shticks to see Wilco on Thursday, and hope to hit Dublin around 7 30 / 8 pm. Where would be the best place to park near Vicar Street?

Or should I leave the chariot at the red cow and get the Luas in...?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68 ✭✭Teasey

You're still a good 15 - 20 min walk from the Luas (either James or Smithfield) to Vicar St but there are a fair few parking spots nearer the Thomas St. area. Plenty of meter parking on Francis St., Thomas St., Meath St., Carmen's Hall, around the back of Vicar St near the side entrance to the Liberty Market and John St.

If you'd prefer off-street parking there's a multi storey on Thomas St - the entrance is on Oliver Bond St which is parallel to Thomas St closer to the Liffey. Not sure of the opening hours though - it might not be 24 hrs.....

There's also a Park Rite in Christchurch near Burdock's which is only about 5 - 10 mins walk away

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,863 ✭✭✭seachto7

Cheers for that. Decisions, decisions. I'd prefer a 24 hr multi storey to meter parking...I recall trying to park near Tripod/national stadium before and it was hard to find a place with all the resident permit parking...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68 ✭✭Teasey

There's a lot of residential around there alright but you should be ok on Thomas St/Meath Place/Francis St as these aren't really residential streets.

Personally I'd have a drive down Meath St, across Carmen's Hall and back up Francis St to have a look - you should definitely find a spot there and if not you can just turn right and head towards Christchurch multistorey. It'll only take you 5 mins and it might save the aul feet a bit!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,863 ✭✭✭seachto7

Cheers for that. I'll do that..

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

What teasey said. Or the multi storey beside burdocks! Probably where i shall be parking!

You can ya, wilco have a policy where they ask people to use non flash photography (where it doesn't disagree with the venues policy) and not to record clips of the band on camera or phone.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,863 ✭✭✭seachto7

cool, thinking of bringing in a camera, but it's a sh1tty one, so no flash would mean bad pics...??? i'll chance it...

Just back, what a f*cking fantastic gig! I'm shattered!

Did anyone make a note of the set list? My wife was with me and didn't know most of the songs, want to make a compilation of the tunes they played tonight. Also if anyone took photos, would appreciate a look...

    Highlights for me -

The guitar solo in Impossible Germany
The bass player singing It's That Simple while Tweedy played bass
I'm Trying To Break Your Heart
The crowd clapping hands and then Tweedy getting us to sing We Are The Champions
The guitar duel at the end
    Two encores

Probably the best gig I have ever been at - Vicar St is a great standing venue and Wilco are fantastic live.

Can someone confirm they played Jesus Etc.?
I was expecting it in encore and it's very likely I just forgot they played it :s

These guys are so awesome live. Never let you down.

Jeff was in great form and Nels just gets better and better.

JUst back to Limerick from the gig. What a f**king gig. I agree with all of your highlights. I have seen the dvd "ashes of american flags" so knew what to expect live, but at an actual gig was far better. "Wilco" the song was pretty cool too, as were a few more of the new ones. A couple of oldies I didn't know, but realy enjoyed as well. No War on War if I'm not mistaken. Unreal gig though...

I spotted auld glen hansard down the back too...

Well that was ****ing awesome. Mikael was on absolutely flying form towards the end. Highlights for me were I'm a wheel, Box full of letter, Magazine called sunset, Walken and that epic 12 minute Blitzen Trapper song. Wasn't going to go tommorow but now very very tempted
