Genital Warts

Hi there. I recently developed a few small warts on my penis. I used a salicylic acid ointment to get rid of them and so far they haven't returned. I've slept with a fair few women over the past few years and I'm now worried about the implications of whether or not I may have passed on the virus to some of them. As far as I was aware, the strain of HPV that causes warts is differant to the strain that can lead to cervical cancer. So my question is, do I need to start going through my phone book and start contacting the ex's over this (something that I hope isn't nessacary)? Or are there any health risks for the women concerned? Also, would it be pertinent to arrange a screening for HPV in a local clinic and can anyone suggest a clinic in the Dun Laoghaire area. I would rather avoid the family doctor for this one if possible. I'm not too concerned about other STI's as I've had occasional check ups in St. James and would be good about using a condom.

Salicylic acid ointment is an over the counter medicaton which is not recemended for gential warts.

Yes it is a concern for women and all your partners as HPV is spread by skin contact.

I could write a book on genital warts!!!!
I was a woman sufferer, went through hell with it, worst and saddest time of my life.
I had slept with one person before this, and i didnt really blame him or have anger towards him, as i then knew how common this virus was. I really thought it was the end of my life, i had also started seeing someone knew before i was diagnosed, and unfortunately passed the on to him. Luckliy he turned out to be the love of my life, and he is clear now.

there is a lot of talk lately about HPV and cervical cancer, so im sure most of the women you have been with have been booking smears and getting tested.

If you really dont want to tell people about this, then dont. But please dont sleep with anyone until you are at least 6-8months free of symptoms.

Where do you live? Daisy Hill hospital in Newry is brilliant for treating this virus.
I had TCA and Cryo done during each trip, and i have now been free since sept of last year

Just worry about yourself for the time being, and rid your body of this virus. Get them treated properly, take vitamins and excercise. But PLEASE dont do not sleep with anyone until after the recommended symptom free period.

Also please note, although i had visible warts, i also had problems with my cervix, so i contracted a few different types of the disease.

Hey, I had the same thing. Got it cleared up at the wellman/wellwoman clinic in Dun Laoghaire. They'll do a full battery of tests and provide treatments for any ailments you may have. Well worth the peace of mind, here's their contact details.......
