European Breakdown Cover - AA or RAC?

Hey guys - I'm planning on taking a trip to France this summer for a few weeks. I've been told to get breakdown cover which I fully intend on doing as I wouldnt be 100% confident about my cars ability not to explode in a pile of smoke, especially in the summer heat.

AA do a European Breakdown Cover ( https://secure.aaireland.ie/travel-insurance/five-star/select-cover.asp ) - It's working out at €200 to cover me for the three weeks.

RAC on the other hand do a similar package which they are advertising at €94. http://www.rac.ie/web/europeantravel/

Anyone know if the RAC is comparable to the AA cover or whether there is another crowd that do something similar, €200 seems just a small bit on the steep side, I was expecting around €120.

I can't comment on price, or on the RAC - but I'm on a "family policy" with the AA, and I've had to call them out twice in total - each time they've been absolutely great, and arrived quickly.

The RAC will actually be Hibernian rescue as the RAC aren't covering Ireland anymore or at least thats the story i got last summer when i went looking for cover for a european road trip, fortunately i didn't need to avail of the service so i can't comment on which is better.

Was just looking at this for a 12 day trip to France. I pay for AA cover (about 150 per year, I think).

However, to cover me for 12 days in France, I would need to pay another 109 euro. That seems exorbitant.

I came across breakdowncover.ie which is provided by AXA and they offer a whole year's including France for 85 euro!

This seems likea no-brainer unless someone can tell me that AXA's breakdown cover is rubbish...

Is the cover the AA sell not travel insurance inclusive? Think you can get it cheaper if you opt out of this.

No - travel insurance would be an extra 36 euro.

At one stage I had my car, home, travel and breakdown cover with the AA. They have lost it all (except breakdown) through crap service and high prices. Breakdown has been good most of the time although let me down very badly in NI once. Still, I think I'd be a mug to pay 109 euro for 12 days.

I've only had three months in the past 5 years of not having full AA Euro cover paid for by the car manufacturer so was just going off what their utterly atrocious website implies!

Never used it for anything other than member benefits on the card (discounts at Moto in the UK, etc) though.

Going to France this June for two weeks.

Just wondering if anybody has purchased cover from breakdowncover.ie and if anybody has had to use it, and if it was a good service ?

I see it is now down to 79 euro.

Who is this crowd, prices look good but have never heard of them? Anyone tested them? Also looking for cover at the moment.
