Not sure if this is the right forum for this but anyway.. I recently got caught on my phone while driving and was told I would be recieving a fine and 2 penalty points. I recieved the fine, paid it and got my reciept. However I haven't gotten any notification of penalty points. Do you just automatically get them? do you recieve notification and if so are you obliged to notify your insurance company?

Once you pay the notice you except guilt and the Department of the enviroment are informed by FCPS office. The point are automatically put on your licence. I have heard instances where people were informed of such but also of instanced where people werent informed.

You are legally obliged to inform your insurance company (although I think it is only after 4 that they take notice). In extreme cases if you were in an injury RTC and you were found not to have notified them then you made a false declaration and your insurance is null and void.

You can ring the Dept to enquire but if you received the notice and payed it then you certainly have points attached.
    Hope this helps

Okay, thanks for that. I rang my insurance company and they said I should get confirmation in the post and to inform them then, it doesn't make any difference until you reach 6 points though
