Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe returned to full training on Wednesday following two months on the sidelines with a serious foot injury.

The diminutive England striker, who required surgery on a stress fracture to his right foot, is not expected to be fit in time to face Newcastle in the league this weekend.

However, he should be in contention for the trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United for the fourth time this season on April 25.

“It’s a big boost for us,” said Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

“He was talking to the lads earlier and told them he couldn’t sleep the night before because he was so excited about returning to training.

“He was up very early, just like a kid at his first day at school. He’s full of enthusiasm and he trained superbly, he looked really sharp, scored some fantastic goals.

“He’s back and that’s a big bonus for us. I’m sure there are a few goals left in him before the end of the season.”

.........hopefully they'll come against Manure on the 25th!
