When I wake up and see cloudy skies for the 100th day in a row I get very angry. I can feel tension and anger in my stomach, you know the feeling? Does this happen to anyone else? Is anyone else affected this way by a few clouds? It's so horrible. Just all that grey. Haven't seen a proper clear blue sky in a long time and I'm really pissed off. Is that normal? It depresses me as well as enrages me. The turning point was a few weeks ago where I had to turn on the lights in the house at midday because it was almost pitch black due to the f*king cloud cover.

It can be a bit frustrating when it's lashing again, and you know you'll get soaked, again.
But living in Ireland it's something we have to learn to deal with.
I'm not giving any medical advice but have you heard of SAD?
There are things to combat it, special lights etc.

You also have to try and not let things get to you - ok it's a horrible grey day, and dark but try and perhaps enjoy part of it - listening/watching the rain whilst doing something, but in a good way. A peaceful way.
I'm not really sure how else to not let bad weather get to you, I'll be honest it can get me a bit blue too when it's lashing rain n horrible. But you just have to hope you can enjoy the next nice day.

It used to bother me but I think over time you can re-calibrate your mind not to mind it. Just remember that its just clouds over your head and possibly water dropping from the sky; itl end like!!
Now I actually hate it when it's really sunny because I feel like everybody I know is doing stuff and I'm not!

was gonna mention SAD (seasonal affect disorder) .... basically constant bad weather depresses people (hence higher suicide rates in more northerly countries - ie. iceland etc)

I like cloudy weather and rain. Its makes me feel happy. I hope this summer will be rain everyday and lots of black clouds. Well at least i dnt have to see people topless or in shorts showing their skinny bones.

Sh**t weather really affects my mood. Looking out the window at the rain here just makes me so miserable and fed up for no reason. If on the other hand I start off miserable and the sun is shining outside, I find my mood lifts instantly.
Oh to live in sunnier climes.

    :rolleyes:Dear oh dear!
I'd say living with a moany-hole like you is more depressing than any bad weather.
Get a grip. There were some glorious days last week.

Rochelle if you've nothing useful to add, please refrain from posting. Attack the post not the poster and read the charter of this forum. Thank you

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    SAD - (Seasonal affective disorder)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_affective_disorder

Lots of people in the northern hemisphere are effected by this, unfortunately some more then others.

You can Google it and then talk to your GP if you think you genuinely have the symptoms. (allot of people wont believe you since its a bit of an odd one and most people claiming to have it usually suffer mild depression and blame the weather)

You`ll more then likely be put on vitamin B tablets and have to sit for 30-45 mins in front of a special light box if diagnosed with S.A.D

personally I get it pretty damn bad but havent gone to the extreme of getting the light box cause im to busy frankly to sit at one. If yah want any advice e.t.c you can pm me if you like.. thats if your not just venting your frustration at the weather and have a genuine problem.

Get your thyroid levels checked fast and talk to your GP about the SAD lamps girl.
First you start feeling bad about the weather than it starts effecting your moods than quality of your life and so on and so forth.....
    (Speaking from experience)

    Sometimes I get like this and I am convinced its SAD as described in other posts.You only have to get a rare glorious day here to notice the better mood everyone seems to be in;the enthusiasm;the smiling;

I find that I have to prioritise the sun breaks away.Just the warmth on your skin;waking up to blue skies;wearing bright, light clothes;being able to sit out at night.

The six months here of dark evenings and rain and cold definitely dont help a persons mood and well being. Its getting more noticeable as I get older.

Finances allowing I intend to spend a lot more time abroad.I just console myself with the thought that the sun is a two hour flight away.

I love the sunshine but I've come to the point where I have to accept I am going to live in Ireland for the rest of my working life and therefore opportunities for glorious sunshine will be few and far between. How I deal with it is to try and accept the greyness for what it is and accept the maxim that . . . in Ireland, it is either raining or about to rain. Therefore OP you need to get proper rain gear and not let the weather get in the way of enjoying your life. Seriously, this works for me. Look at the people from warm countries who come here to get piss*d on and enjoy it. Opposites attract.

TBH I'm not convincing myself fully either but you've got to try, otherwise you'd go mental in this god forsaken p*sshole of despair.

    Hi it's the OP here.

Starpants, that Seasonal disorder thing sounds just like me, although I'd be very wary of self diagnosis via the internetz! I've never heard of that before so thanks for the link.

And Rochelle I'm not a moany hole! This is the only time I've ever spoke/written about it. I don't go around complaining about the weather. I'm raging inside, on the outside I don't moan about anything really. I hate moaners.

Evo Tempest I don't really know if I have a problem or am just venting, I dunno! That;s why I just posted the thread here. If I wanted to vent I'd go to afterhours or something.

Once summer comes, or when at least a week of consecutively sunny days appear, I feel perfectly normal again.

I'm not really sure what I'm asking for, I suppose I just wanted to know did anyone else ever feel such anger against mere clouds! Blue sky just makes me feel noticeably happier. I feel really really good. A complete contrast to a grey sky.

I'm moving out of the country mainly due to the weather. Not due to the economic climate or anything. I have a good job. I hate the weather! I'll be gone at the end of summer/onset of autumn.

    Eh... that's it I suppose!

Good on ya - I suffer from clinical depression and the weather affects my mood. Its terrible especially in winter...even now...I cant wake up in the morning and dont start functioning until 4pm at least!

I lived in Oz and NZ for 5 years...the weather defo helps...you still have your bad days however and many the morning I woke up in Auckland in bad form wishing for some Irish rain!

Go live abroad - nothing in Ireland anyhow if you dont have family/kids/good job etc..Better prospects and opens your mind!

Am back now and am enjoying living back here - weather is crap though but I ave the choice to move back again...

    Good luck!

I know how you feel. I get SAD mildly. If the weather is grey I lose all motivation and feeling. Just become numb and want to lie on the couch looking into space.

I've had an awful headache from the weather the past few days. The atmospheric pressure causes migraines and sinus headaches. It's pretty common but most people aren't aware. I hope there's a huge storm and it lashes properly then the clouds can bugger off and I can function again.

I read the OP and smiled - Yep this kind of weather can sometimes make me really angry too (so it was cool to see I'm not alone in this) - just the constant greyness, darkness and wetness outside can really piss me off when it's day after day.
When it's winter it's ok - but we've had 2 summers of near constant rain and if that happens again today I'm scared I might go bonkers.

I don't think I have SAD because I don't get down I just feel cheated out of a blue sky and feel frustrated (not all the times, just sometimes).

Someone else said that if you start the day off miserable and the sun shines then your mood is lifted and it's true.
I think it's also because we know that other countries are getting blue skies and sunshine - we can feel cheated and it's really frustrating.

I'm not really in a position to move country either - so it is a case of 'put up and shut up' which is frustrating in itself!
