Alcohol Makes Me Sick

Every time I drunk, I throw up! Some times its really bad and goes on half the following day.

I usually drink either vodka or beer or wine. I never mix my drinks. I never do shots. I never drink excessively, maybe 4 drinks in a night - 5 would be tops.

I can get away with it if I only have one drink, but above that I know I'll be sick.

I tried taking those LifeLine things but they didn't work.

When I was a teenager up to about 21 I could drink whatever I wanted and be fine the next day, always mixing my drinks and doing shots. I'm 25 now and this just seems to be getting worse. Does anyone have any tips, am I allergic to alcohol?

Its really getting me down as, although I know you don't need alcohol to enjoy yourself etc, I feel its ruining my social life.

It sounds like you might be allergic to alcohol. Your GP should be able to confirm this or refer you to someone who can.

Why do you keep drinking then?

If I eat a jar of mayonnaise, I get sick. I have come up with an ingenious plan to stop the sickness, and that is to not eat jars of mayonnaise.

    Agreed - doctor!

I'm allergic to vodka so that makes me throw up but I know to stay away.

Alcohol is toxic. So the high that you're getting from drink is due to body malfunctions while you're slowly poisoning yourself. So there is really not much wrong with getting sick from alcohol as such.

Some people can get away with more alcohol than others. Also your ability to cope with the hangovers doesn't get better while you get older. I know a man who doesn't drink because one beer has him dying all day long the next day. He's like that all his life.

But you're only 25. So unless you're not completely honest with us with regards to amounts of spirits consumed there may be something wrong. Especially since you say you were better at this just a few years ago. So something in your body has changed and it changed quite dramatically, not just at the 'aging rate'. Go and see a doctor.
