    Evening all.

I hate this country in this moment, you get one contact number for the motor tax office to make a query and low and behold its engaged!! Useless People!!
    Arrrgghh!!

I got ownership of a car on the 6/4/09, do I need to do paper work for Road Tax or do they automatically send me out the documents. I tried to do it online but I don't have the pin so that has me thinking I have to start it off with paper work?

    Thanks for advice

If the car is registered under your name and address then you should get a reminder in the post, with a pin, to tax the car.

You need to go in person to your local tax office for first taxing of car after change of ownership. In subsequent renewals can be then done online.

No you don't! I haven't been to a tax office in years. The previous owner or garage sends in the change of ownership details to the motor tax office, they send out the new documents to you and if the tax is due you will receive the renewal notice or you can call and renew over the phone if it's already overdue.

If the car needs to be taxed now, or soon after the change of ownership then you will probably just have to send in the form from the motortax.ie website to the local tax office. It's really quite easy.

Off topic - what's with all this "--> that way" crap on boards? That's the scrollbar over there.
