Broke up with my girlfriend of over 8 years four months ago.We lived together but she moved out after our relationship hit rock bottom. We still see each other ,are great friends, meet up alot, she often stays over. She has now fallen for someone she knows and they both want to meet up.She wants to keep our friendship going. She also is going to tell future dates about me and that we are still good friends.I had no problems until I heard about other guy, probably part jealousy or all.anyone got advice,I dont want to lose out on a friendship, because if I meet someone else it would nt be as hard for me to take then.It something that maybe the 2 of us have to do,like go and meet other people to realise what we had or just to move on.Time will tell,I just want to be able to be seen handling this well.
    advice

its great that you are trying to stay friends but if doing this is going to cause you any emotional pain or make you feel jealous then i think you should not go

you are under no obligation to explain your position to your ex but if you feel you should do so then i think that she would understand how you feel given the length of time you both were together

Im replying to my post.I dont mean to go and meet her new date.I just want to know about keeping the friendship going with her.I think it would be wrong to let jealousy of her meeting someone else get in the way, when infact I would have no problem meeting someone new myself.8 years together was great ,but near the end I didnt appreciate her as much as I should have.

...but near the end I didnt appreciate her as much as I should have.

don't mean to nit-pick here but is the "should have" bit a clue that you still have feelings for her?

i was in a similar situation before. the way out was we said we would only meet up in town for lunch and stuff to avoid being seen in suspect situations.

she told him we were still friends and if he didnt like it then tough. i told her that of she wanted to cut all contact then fair enough. but our system worked

Have been told better to cut all contact, but I still enjoy her company. If I cut all ties now there will be unhappiness around ,and if we stay in touch I will hear of the new guy in her life, which I hope I ll be able to cope with.I think once I start meeting other people I will know what I really want.Maybe I dont want anyone else having her which is just jealousy. She is also not sure of this new guy but wants to meet to see if that is what she wants.I was her first and only boyfriend,so I can understand that if we stayed together, she would always have that wonder, what if

Will this time apart and change make a difference to us.Could we realise we are for each other or maybe the opposite and have made the right decision
