    Hi,

Heading to LA in July and looking for some recommendations on the best place to stay as a base for 4 days? Would like to go to six flags, santa monica, perhaps a day trip to san diego if possible.
Any other recommendations on what we should see & do? Was thinking about staying in the manhattan beach area as it seems central but dont know what traffic etc is like.
Heading straight to the grand canyon afterwards - is there anythingh worth seeing on the drive over?

    Thanks,

    *bump.

One other quick question. We have an extra day to spend in either LA or San Diego. Any advice? Im leaning towards Sandiego with the beaches etc.

It really depends on what type of holiday you want but I'd be going more towards San Diego if it was a choice between those 2 cities.

Otherwise I'd head inland and stay at Two Bunch Palms Spa instead.

I don't think it's eally going to matter exactly where you stay in LA once you're driving but Manhattan beach is next to the 105 and 405 so is probably perfect. I lived by Redonda beach (a little south of Manhattan) for some time and the traffic can often be luck of the draw but last year we had a GPS from Alamo which had traffic updates and rerouted us several times around accidents and roadworks so may be worth looking into.
