"I'm gonna do the splits on your pillow!"

Men are funnier than Women - They have a much broader and more diverse sense of humour. FACT! (not really a fact, actually just my opinion).

Anyway, I've always thought that I was the funny one in the relationship. I have also been known to have a slightly sick sense of humour at times. But the other half comes out with some great one-liners every now and then.

Last night, I had just finished changing the sheets etc. on the bed; and a while later we decided it was time to hit the hay. I said something along the lines of "I'll be up in a minute, don't go hoggin my side and wreckin that new bed like ya always do"... when she says straight back "I'm gonna do the splits on your pillow!"

I was falling around laughing for a few minutes, maybe you'd have had to be there to see the funny side....

I was wondering what people think about 'being funny' - is it a right reserved for us men or can women join in too sometimes?

Look at comedians & comediennes - There are far more funny men out there than women. 2 that just popped into my head as I'm typing are Jo Brand & Sarah Silverman.

    Jo Brand - A.K.A. 'I'm fat - everyone laugh'
Sarah Silverman - 'I'll act as much like a man as possible to seem funny'

    Opinions Please!!

I think it's safe to say that this pun shows that not all us men-folk are as hilarious as we'd like to believe...

It's not that women aren't funny, it's that women rarely make the effort. It's like chatting up a man: they can do it, but they choose not to.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Kristen Wiig is funny.

    Katherine Tate is also funny.

    That is all.

I find that most women comedians aren't very funny. They tend to all make jokes of the same thing:

    1. Periods
    2. Sagging breasts
    3. Pregnancy
    4. PMS

    etc etc

I have rarely seen a woman comedian actually use current affairs/politics or anything original in their material. Not saying they aren't out there....but I've never seen them!

    QFT.

I much prefer going out with the lads. Wimmins (most & imo) are incapable of leaving their serious side at home. For this reason, I have penis envy. Its the saddest, cringiest sight- when you walk in on a pïssed therapy session when you need to go to the toilet.

    OP, I think that was a <between couples> kind of humour ;)

Probably the same reason why you never see men in the same company or men in the same company laughing and meaning it.

Have met some genuinely funny girls, but very few.

Maybe becasue women have a different sense of humour that doesn't appeal to men?

You forgot babies, children and husbands. It's like they're in some sort of timewarp where all beyond themselves and their home is scary and mysterious.

There are theories that being funny is a male display of intelligence and social and possibly physical fitness(though the latter in a particular way) towards women and other competing men.

Read a study(can't find that particular one online, but this is another study with a similar slant http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7153584.stm) which looked at a cross section of men in the general population of different ages and how they were perceived as funny or not. Younger males generally were funnier. Older males much less so in general and found similar things funny as women.

Funnier males were also socially more adept, had more friends and more sexual partners, than males not considered funny. Their free testosterone levels were higher and they were more socially competitive. Younger males in the company of women would "compete" with each other with humour.

So from that they concluded that obvious social humour in men was possibly an evolutionary thing selected by women that gave external indications of their reproductive fitness. Funnily of the professional stand ups they looked at the results were skewed. They tended to be less socially adept. Which was interesting. Tears of a clown etc.

So it looks like a balance. A bit funny and generally humourous was good, but too much or too consistently(professional funny men), while good for the group, was not so good for the individual.

I remember reading another article which suggested that the general subtle brain differences between the genders may be a reason too. Men tend to have more isolated brain hemispheres, so abstract humour tended to be more appealing to them than to women. Women tended to prefer social humour based in reality.

All that said I do know some very funny women and some seriously unfunny men. I would say that of the generally humorous types, the balance was more on the male side though.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Woman use humour in a more subtle way. Men tell jokes, stories and fart a lot. Some of that's not funny. It's frankly stupid to say that 'women don't have a sense of humour', because it's not true. How can an entire half of the population have no sense of humour? And to all the guys who claim that women aren't funny, would you go out with a humourless woman?

she is the politely laughing till i run out of material ( 10 or so lines... )

i think very few if any women are funny... i think they Can work well as a part of something ( teaming up, i set her up and she finishes it off kinda thing )

other then that... nah... dismall performances from 99.99% of women

Sometimes men can be un-intentionally funny. For instance, my (female) boss came in dressed in what can be described as summer attire. To which I respond 'it makes me feel warm, looking at you'. :o

    Fanny batter on the pillow?

Good for clearing out the sinuses .

Trick is to put a piece of kitchen paper on the "trail" so your ear is not damp next morning.
Very invigorating scent and slightly acid, you may need two or three sheets if the auld Bartholins are a bit "flúirseach" as we Gaeilgóirs say.
To be recommended on special occasions, otherwise your ear gets sore.
