Ok so i was coming home from work tonight, i had stopped at traffic lights and then i took off. about 500 yards up the road i saw 2 gardai get out of a car so i jammed on then he put his arm up for me to pull in so i did! then he came up going on a mad one saying i was speeding like mad bla bla bla

then i got 2 penalty points and an 80e fine for ''Careless Driving''

    So bottom line is,

He thinks I was driving to fast,
    I got pulled over,
He has no proof I was over the speed limit, it's just his opinion
And I didnt get points for speeding I got them for careless driving even thought I had full tax, insurance, perfect functioning car, headlights on, seatbelt on etc....

Can I contest this???? Advice needed asap, what do I do??

Simply ignore the notice and it will go to court.

    Best of luck with it.

Different strokes, different folks. Chances are high that if you did bother to take it to court and shell out for a solictor. You could get off. Are you willing to go to the bother.

Take some legal advice if you wish to pursue it. Forget listening to forum opinions they are only opinions afterall..;)

I know it has nothing to do with it you're just being disputatious! what i was trying to convey was that i am NOT a careless driver, and he gave me no reason as to why I was other than he THOUGHT i was going to fast! Is that reason enough to give points is my main Q?

Take it on the chin forget about it pay the fine it's not worth a day off or even two for court. It's only 2 points you have (unless you have more) so no insurer will care.
The fact that you felt you had to "Jam on" means you obviously thought you were going to fast, if not then why do it.
You'll be over it before you even have to pay the fine or the points are added.
I've had a few points (2 now) myself so i know how annoying it is.

There are no penalty points for "acting the muppet on the road" ...so they had to give the whole thing its "official" name

Sounds to me like you took off from the lights like a loon. This can be and often is prosecuted under careless driving. And the fact that you had to jam-on to stop......... Doesn't look good is all I say

OK **** it I'm over it now! At the end of the day I was doing about 10km more that the limit so I have accepted my punishment and moved on! I'm gonna take solace in the fact that E80 is absolute piss to me and deep down I know the Garda was right! There I've said it, he was right, albeit a prick!

Then again he's hardly going to get his message across if he lectures me about running a child over with a big smile on his face - but if you ask me he should be more concerned about the types of parents who let their children out at 10 at night (damn I wish I'd though of that when he was talking to me), but such is life!

This is me officailly laughing it off.... :D:D:D

    Ta Y'all

of a car so i jammed on then he put his arm up for me to pull in so i did!

im not being smart but you shouldnt have to jam on anything if you were doing the speed limit, before you go mad at me,i have a careless driving conviction (im not proud of it),i got 5 penalty points and a €150 fine after going to court, and i had valid tax, insurance and nct,

as far as i know if you dispute it they try get a witness, but if the two gardai agree i think they tend to go with their opinion,an €80 fine and 2 penalty points seems to be a speeding fine,i would have taken that over what i got,if it goes to court a solicitor could cost you a few hundred euro, and a day standing around waiting,

You should have taken the advice of others and taken it to court!
Hopefully then the judge would have quickly wiped the arrogant smirk off your face!
