No appetite after workout

Recently i've noticed that after my workout, I have absolutely no appetite? Straight after training I'll have a double portion of a protein shake. Usually I'd come home and eat a full steak dinner after training, but not anymore, I have no appetitie what so ever after training.

Does this happen to anyone else?

No that sounds odd - I'm usually starving after a workout.

I don't take protein shakes - are they filling?
Make sure that you are getting enough calories and protein after a workout. If you're not, eat something even if you're not hungry

Maybe you should talk to your GP, as you used to have an appetite

Ya, I still try and eat something, just to get it into me.

There's not really much point in eating anything until an hour and a half after the protein at the earliest. Your body can only absorb a certain amount of protein at a time. Normally, you would leave a gap of about 2.5-3.5 hours but apparently abosorption rates increase following training.

On a side note, you really should get some glucose/dextrose for that protein shake and add it. Reason being - it is a form of simple carbohydrate and will give your body a much needed insulin spike following training.

i usually have a protein shake (double loaded) with a bananna after a workout but i wouldnt be able to eat alot straight away. id have to give it about 1.5hour before i could eat a full dinner.

Maybe you should try swimming after your workout as swimming can give a huge appetite....

Agreed - I thought this was only me, but swimming always leaves me very hungry - more so than other exercises, even when the intensity is much higher.

As a side note, does anybody know why this is?

Think Dr. Transform had posted a thread on this the other day - something about ghrelin or something like that. Was a bit technical for my likes, so only skimmed, but he did something about it making you feel hugnrier after swimming than other exercises.

I'd normally go to the gym at about 8pm. I'd get out at about 9.30 at the latest. So, if I leave it 2.5 hours, that's midnight. It's not really that feasible when you think about it. That's why I need to try and eat as soon as I can after training.

Do you mean a normal bag of glucose that I can get in Dunnes?

Yes agreed - midnight is not feasible

What time do you go to bed? Some people say you shouldn't eat anything heavy for a few hours before bed - and a steak dinner would be considered heavy. Maybe it's that you don't need anything.

Does your lack of appetite only occur after the gym or do you notice it at other times during the day?

I'd normally go to bed at about half 10 or 11.

The lack of appetitie is usually after the gym. I'm fine during the day. Maybe it's the double portion of protein filling me up.

its a full body carido and resistance workout, and u dont eat very much before as you dont want to get cramps. which means u will be starving afterwards
