No i don't believe so. The Governments version of the bad bank should do the job.

Aib-boi will escape delisting and full nationalization abet gov will have at least 50% stake.

I think it's unlikely they will be fully nationalised. It would be political suicide for FF to do this as the loss that shareholders have would have to be realised.

Loss aversion is strong within the Irish psyche.

could see start of next leg down tommorow, I am confident aib will escape being fully nationalized as long as ff remain in gov, all bets are off if there is a forced G.E though.

They will have to be nationalised.

    1. Bad bank is created.
    2. Bad bank forces AIB and BOI to admit their bad debts.
    3. Bad bank buys the bad debts for a % of their value, say 50%.
    4. BOI and AIB are left with the remaining 50% as holes in their balance sheet.
    5. As this hole will be about 50 billion, the banks will need to be nationalised.

I cannot see how the above is avoidable. I suspect AIB and BOI will lie somewhat when it gets to step 2, but they will eventually have to come clean.
