Dell laptop making noise and not charging battery

    Hi

I have a Dell inspiron laptop which is making a loud noise when powered on and remains loud whilst laptop is in use. The laptop will then crash after approx 40 minutes use. In addition this laptop will not charge the battery. The loud noise sounds like a fan could be faulty or a wire could be hitting off the fan. I have swopped the battery and charger off another Dell inspiron and found the other laptop will charge the battery. So the problem is not with the battery or charger.
I have checked the OS (Vista) for event logs, disc errors, I have monitored system performance, C drive is not full. I cant see why the OS is crashing, and it looks to be in good working order.

My opinion is it could be the mother board. This laptop is about 1 year old and just out of warranty.

Does anybody have any other advise on this issue? Could it be anything else?

    hertz
