    Hi,

My boss has just informed me that from next week I will be put a three day week. As I have never been in this position before I was wondering do I qualify for any benefits?

    I'm a 22 female I was earning €500pw for the last 19mts and €350pw the previous 2years.
    My partner 26 earns €400pw.

We have a mortgage of €952pm and we are not in negative equity.
We also have personal loans of €150 pw and my partner pays €100pw maintenance to his daughter from a previous relationship.
Sorry for all the info I didn't know what would be relevent.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

AFAIK, you would be entitled to job seekers allowance for the other 2 days, however if you worked anymore than 3 days, you would not be. However, you could probably be waiting a while before this came through - think there is a 6 month back log at the moment.

Same happened to me. Applied and got jobseekers benefit.

The welfare use a six day working week.
Jobseekers benefit is € 204.00 weekly.
Bacause you are on a three day week you get the other three days of welfare if you qualify - € 102.00 a week.

    It all helps.;)

You may qualify for the JobSeekers benift judging from your work history

as said its be half a weeks money based on their 6 day week giving you 102
meaning with that you'll be only 100 down on your normal 500 wage, still not great but better than being down 200.

Was on a 3 day week myself a few years back, not sure if its the same now but how it worked then was , they give you a slip to check off the days you worked that week and you get it signed and stamped by your employer and then hand it into the dole office, not sure if thats still how it works?

i dont think your in that bad of a situation.
Your partners wages should cover all bills.

And whatever you will be earning now can be used for day to day living, you will also be able to claim dole for the 2 days that you dont work.

Put things into perspective, your situation hasnt got that bad yet.

What sort of house have you got, any chance of renting a spare room for extra cash

I did a rough calculation, after all those bills are taken care off, you should have roughly 700 left for other things, and this doesnt include the 2 days dole!!

    Am i missing something here?

Thanks for your replies. I did not mean to sound like what’s happened is the end of the world; I do understand that my problems pale in comparison to others.

Just to clarify I do have other bills phone (12 month contract 80 p/m 7months left), car insurance (we both need our cars for work) electricity, gas, shopping etc.... I can’t rent out the spare room as my partners daughter lives with us 3/4 days a week and it's her room.

I was only asking to see if I might be entitled to a medical card or maybe some other form of supplement. As I said I am on a three day week now, but it may only be a matter of time before I lose my job. In the mean time I feel I should prepare myself by saving as much as I can. I just don't want to start asking for advice when it’s too late....

    Thanks again

Sorry for coming across so harshly.
Did you contact social welfare about claiming for the other 2 days?

check out the mabs website, and download the budget sheet, its very good for keeping on top of things.

Is there any way you could get a part time job...weekend work in a shop, evening shifts, anything. this might keep you going for a while.

Im on the verge of losing my job too (and im in debt - €11,000:eek:) , but i think we got to stay positive about all this.

Just do all you can to survive...good luck

Thats a bit of a myth really. If you lose your job or get a serious cut in wages your still in the **** whether your paying mortgage or rent. Your just paying one to the bank and the other to a landlord.
