Gym Fatigue

    Hi,

    I'm back in the gym with a new weights routine, but my problem is that I get very "tired" quite soon into my weight routine. What do you do to combat this? Is it a simple sugar drain? I only drink water while I train.

    It's not an exhaustion tiredness, I could still run for 5 - 10k after, so I have "energy"

    Any suggestions or ideas?

    I'd say you just need to build up your stamina-and maybe just do a little less for the 1st while your back, quality over qauntity..

    Agree with Cozerp. Also, make sure you're not starving before training. Eat about an hour before and soon afterwards. Sports drinks won't really do anything for you. Ease into it

    Thanks for the advice.

    This is something I've already felt though, even when I'm fit and have been training for months.

    I always try and eat exactly two hours before I train (maybe thats too long?)
    If its any longer, I'm starving, any thing less than the 2 hours, and I cramp (with cardio). I guess I could try 1 hour before if I'm not doing any cardio

    Diet and exercise routine would be helpful before we could offer advice. That and how's your sleep, when are you working out?

    Diet (Vegetarian :o ):

    Morning: Weetabix/Porridge and fresh fruit
    Lunch: Potatoes or Rice with a helping of protein (Beans, peas etc), not so much veg everyday, side salad
    Snack: Crisps and or a portion of fruit
    Dinner: Noodles or rice, some veggie protein thing
    Snack: 2- 4 Toast and Crisps
    Alcohol: Almost Nightly I'm afraid

    Training:
    I'm only back training two weeks, I've been away a lot with work since christmas.
    2 weights sessions a week, split between arms, shoulders, back, core/abs/legs
    (So, for example, 3 sets of 10 - free weights for biceps, triceps, shoulders,
    3 x 8-10 bench press,
    3 x whatever I can for pull ups
    3 x 12-14 situp and oblique twists)

    Cardio: I run 3 or 4 times a week, totalling anywhere from 15 - 25k a week

    Sleep: used to be a lot better :-) But I get a least 7hours per week night (Weekends vary)

    I usually work out in the evenings, say around 6ish. I'd like to try switching to some sessions before work, as I used to prefer training in the mornings.....

    Currently I don't take any supplements and gym hydration is just with water.

    Is that enough info?

    In general, I know I need to cut down on the alcohol, and increase my fruit/veg consumption. When I do my cardio, I have no problem running for an hour, but once I start lifting weights, I just feel like I have no energy left after only a few minutes.

    might be obvious but make sure you are doing your weights first, then cardio if you are doing them on the same day

    Thanks, yep. My problem used to be trying to do too much all at once!

    On days where I do weights (approx twice a week), I only do light cardio, after the weights.

    On cardio days, I'm usually too wrecked to do any weights ha ha :-) usually just end up doing sit-ups

    As I mentioned, I've never taken supplements or extra protien, do people ever use energy drinks when working out? Or are those bottles with coloured liquids that some people drink just protein or some other supplement?
