WHy oh why, in this current climate, is it so difficult for me to find a nice sofa, at a reasonable price???

I am looking for a corner sofa, preferable leather, and every one I find that I think might be nice, they are over 4 grand. Is it just be, or is that a bit scandalous?

Anyone have any recommedations of furniture stores who's mark up will not break the bank?

Hey there, am looking around for similar myself and i must say you can't beat ikea prices, like this:

    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70126553

You could get it delivered and all for under 2 grand - haven't seen the quality of leather yet tho, but have found ikea good so far on other things.

You get what you pay for! Any corner unit under €1000 is probably imported from China and the chemicals used to dye the leather can cause health problems. € 2-4k is reasonable for something that will last maybe 10 years and will not be worth recovering. € 5-7 k will get a good unit from someone like Gaston y Daniela or Whitehead that will last a lifetime and e good enough to reupholster.

i agree with OP. i have just bought my first house and have found it difficult to find good quality at a reasonable price. i finally found a lovely fabric suite but ended up paying 3000 for it which i thought was a bit pricey. In the current climate one would think that shops would be fighting for business by offering good deals but ive yet to come across them!

    Hi, I feel your pain!

Personally speaking I would have preferred to have purchased antique furniture from the off as you will inevidently want a change of scene (furniture) within the next 10years and having spent quite a lot of money on furniture 5 years ago, I'm thinking of a change.
Of course maybe for a Sofa or something getting a lot of use/abuse then I would buy a decent quality sofa, probably what you're looking at, at present.

don't know if I have been of any help to you but....

You'd probably get that for about €1,650 collected and delivered to Dublin with the exchange rate as it is. Some Ikea stuff is a bit junky and flimsy, but for the money it's definitely good value on most things.

I agree with first poster - Reid is definitely the best value for money I found in ROI. We bought a gorgeous corner unit there that was originally EUR2500, on sale for EUR1400 and we managed to get it for EUR 800 because someone had cancelled an order! Everywhere else we looked we found similar sofas for >EUR 3500.

I would also take a look at the dfs website - a sofa company based in NI. We went to their showroom and were impressed with their selection, quality and prices. I'm sure you could get a "man with a van" to collect for you if necessary.
