I've hooked up a 42 inch LCD to my Macbook pro to use alongside my laptop screen. Is it only using the video card processing or is there any extra draw on resources from my CPU?

It's only the GPU as far as I know.

Not particularly, I regularly run a 24" as well as the internal one in my MBP (Early 2007 model).

Could be an issue with low VRAM (128mb) -- I'm pretty sure that's what my more CompSci mate told me.
Should all be GPU stuff tho.
