    Guys

I am going to make an offer on a car:

Alfa GT, 06 approx 30k miles on it - Sportivo version. 1.8l Petrol

Was thinking of going in at around 15k - .... Its a cash purchase so does that seem about right or should I be going lower?

I took it out last week, drives nicely and seems well kept.

I think it is a little bit pricey to be honest, the 1.8 litre petrol would not be the most desirable model on the market. I would not pay more than €15k for it to be honest.

    Lovely car btw.

Think you're about right with €15k. Must say it looks like a lovely example with the cream leather. Some might not like the 1.8 but I'm in the minority who would have it over the diesel anyway - I think you need a 7,000 rpm redline in an Alfa. Go for it!

    Thanks Bazz/Sky..

It doesn't have the grunt I'd like at the lower gears so am going to look at the diesel version and the 2L petrol. It was a lovely example of it though. Not a mark on it.

Is it not a little naive to be posting exact details of car, dealership and price you intend paying?

This is a public forum highly popular with those in the trade...

Probably right - I've removed some of the detail I had on and replaced link just with some detail. Still is only worth what someone will pay. Think the advice offered was spot on either way. Thanks pburns

I drove a Alfa 156 1.8 TS ( same engine I think ) and yeah compared to the 150bhp 310nm+ diesel , it would be a little bit dead in gear, heck its a bit dead compared to my Fabia Vrs ( remapped ), and the diesel Alfa Gt would be alot more refined/revy than mine. You could always remap the diesel to 200bhp as well and still get 45mpg.

I can second that aswell....the 2 are totally different driving experience.

I loved the high revving of the TS but there is something you gotta love about the 1.9JTDm. Anyone that has ever got in the car with me has commented on how quick it accelerates even when in 5th gear

    Cheers lads

Just an update... I bought it at 15.5. Changed the cambelt for me and a years warranty for the extra 500 so was happy enough.

    Drives lovely and looks well.

Its still on carzone so if you'd like a like a link just PM me.

Re lex, yeah I hear where your coming from but it's my first alfa so decided might as well make it a petrol. I needed a car now so would have probably went for the 2.0 but couldn't find anything in the exact spec me (and Mrs CC) wanted (ie the extras). It could have been a while waiting for it so just went with the 1.8

Lovely car but the 1.8 is a dog of an engine. I had one for a few days and just didn't like it at all!

What did you not like about it? I drove a 156 with the TS 1.8 for a bit and I couldn't really fault the engine (for what it is, a small 4 pot engine)

True.. and is plenty powerful enough for a reasonably sensible driver like myself.

I don't know what it is about the Alfa's but they just give you a such a great feeling. I smile everytime I get in and out of it!

sorry lads, I didn't read the thread properly.... I actually love the GT ( but I'd have gone for a 3.2 :D ) - for some reason I thought you were looking at a 159 1.8 which is a heavy dog with f all power to keep it going.

Best of luck OP and well wear. Lovely motor
