i need to carry a badminton racket on a aerlingus flight to amsterdam.
is it considered as a sports equipment and will i be charged extra?
i have a checked in baggage but the racket does not fit inside the suitcase
so i need to carry in as hand luggage or put it in as checked in?
    please advice

It's nothing to do with the airline as to what you can take on as hand luggage (except for the overall size/ weight), it's all about the airport and how picky their "security" personell are.

If you have a carry on bag that you can mostly fit the racket into then you will probably be OK. If you come across an awkward security guy though then they "might" consider it a weapon if they are having a bad day. I wouldn't carry the racket through on it's own though as that will just draw attention to it.

The charges for sports equipment going in the hold should only be for the likes of large items like skis/ golf clubs/ surf boards/ bikes etc.
