Anyone stayed in a San Diego Hotel??

As part of a super awesome holiday myself and my OH are planing for end of Sept-Oct we will be hitting San Diego!
I am looking for a good budget hotel to stay in for 5days-a week. I have seen loads but i always tend to pick kinda crappy hotels (i can never strike the right balance between budget and fleapit!) so I am looking for any reviews/recommendations from people who have been before me!!
It doesn't have to be the cheapest of the cheap....a good balance between price & location!!
