I saw a 2007 reg audi a6 yesterday but it was the model produced between 1997 and 2004. I remembered then seeing a 2006 reg a6 of the same model a few months back aswell.

Anyone know what the story with that is?

Could just be a car that went unsold for a while. With the w124 e-class there was a stock pile of those in saudi i think for years. You see loads of 98-99 reg's on those when they went out of production in 94.

I saw a truck recently with new unregistered old model citroen c5's on the back and i'm sure if you really really wanted to you could get an 09 almera or primera even though they haven't been built in over two years

There are still lots of unregisterd old generation 1.6 litre Toyota Avensis for sale despite the new model being onsale for a couple of months now.

I also seen a 09 Nissan Almera driving around about 2 months ago despite the Tiida being on sale for 2 years now.

have also seen a good few last model Avensis registered in 09 and also a few Vectras.

You'd want to be getting a very good deal or keep your car for a long time to do that

With all the pictures of stock piled cars that are doing the rounds I think this will become more common place. Apparently they are even using the car transport ships as storage units now too. Ringaskiddy Port, Cork is meant tot be full, even the Cork-Swansea ferry loading lanes are full of unsold cars.

They had better free that lane as the Cork-Swansea route will be operational again and I plan to use it to import my 2nd car from the UK using that ferry so at least the Cork port is helping us find cars now:D

Tis strange this thread was posted, as I was going to post the same myself. I saw a 06 coupe 3-series, pre-facelifted model, which was 04 IIRC. Was behind a 09 Old shape Octavia and a few more that have gone from my memory.

Do companies make to order coming near the end of the models run, or do they just hedge their bets? I'd imagine they would all end up with plenty of leftover cars at the end of every modles run.

The original MkI Octavia is still produced and sold brand new, they call it the Octavia Tourer.

Fiat Punto was also sold for a while along side the Grande Punto. Same went for the Peugeot 206.

Back in the mid 1990s the old model Fiesta sold along side the new model for about 12 months. It was badged Fiesta Classic. Ford also sold the Escort for 2 years after it was replaced by the Focus.

There was an 09 Vectra in Liffey Valley the other day. I hope he got a massive discount.

That's cause they were inundated with the bags of crap that no one bought!

I also came across a 09 MG TF on my travels last week!

About 16/17 years ago, my firend's grandfather replaced his old car with an Ascona C. It had a '91 reg though and I asked how (since the Vectra replaced it in '88). Turned out that it had been an airport car and they go unregistered whilst being used for airport/runway duties. It is only when they are moved on that they are first registered. I'm not sure if it still works the same way nowadays but perhaps that could be an explanation?

Yeah i knew that, but i was more worried about the mental state of the driver, and more importantly how likely he was to suddenly jam on the brakes!

You'd wonder why they don't just sell them cheaply? Or do special offers with them? I wonder could you look through their catalog of what cars do they dstill have, to see can you get a classic on the cheap?

A few years back when the AE86 Corollas were having a big comeback there was a persistent rumor/urban myth that there were still some unregistered examples in the country. Anyone else hear that one?

Also the one that there was a guy importing AE92 GTi Corollas from New Zealand and Australia where they could still be bought new.

A lot of those particular W124's were imported from India were they were made in the latter half of the '90's. Bog standard spec & heavy duty suspension - awful. But were sold to unsuspecting buyers as a European model Merc.

Airport cars are registered nowadays anyway, don't know about in the past.
