Don't know about the shops but be prepared to be stopped and have to pay the taxes at the airport. I tried to get away with it once and it ended up costing me double in taxes as they charge you a fine if you don't declare and get caught!

Avoiding tax is illegal and Boards can be asked to provide IP logs of people suspected to be evading tax or assisting in tax evation under the Data Protection Act. Just so you know.

Where in this guys post did he mention about trying to avoid paying tax?
All he asked was advice on music shops and if there was any difficulties in bringing home equipment. There was no mention on tax evasion!

It was a warning to anyone who decided to explain how to evade tax. If you have an issue with my modding, either post in the Helpdesk or pm me.

OP, if you do a search of this forum you will find several threads with details of guitar shops in New York.

I posted a slightly dodgy suggestion just before the mod's post - I assumed he was referring to me so I deleted it! Something to do with guitar cases.;)

No, import duty is not new.

And you won't be taxed on items you already own.

How do they know what you own tough? I mean, you could go over with a cheapo strat copy that cost you 50 bucks, while over there get rid of that guitar and put a nice expensive american deluxe or something in the case.

Im guessing most customs officials wont tell the difference between one guitar and the next.

Not saying your wrong, Im just wondering how it works.

Even after a warning, people are still suggesting ways of evading tax. Closed.
