1997 Nissan Almera Electrics??

    Hi All,

I have a 1997 Nissan Almera (Irish car). 120k on the clock and has just been serviced (week before last). This morning I went out to drive it and upon switching on the electrics the rev counter needle went all the way to the right. Turned it off and on again another 2 times and she's working fine now. Car is driving perfect and no other signs of trouble (yet!)

Question is...Is this a new Alternator time?? Doing a bit of digging on the interweb and seemingly it's the first sign of alternator trouble.

2nd Question is..How much am I looking at for a new one/ reconditioned one? What's the best way to proceed. (besides bringing it to my mechcanic on Tuesday)

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Doohan.

I wouldn't worry about it. My mate has a 96 Almera and the rev counter sometimes goes a bit haywire now and again. I hear it's common enough for them. His has been at that for the last 2-3 years, so I wouldn't worry about replacing the alternator yet.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

it should do unles sthe dash is goin mad during a test. There are many cars that do not have a rev counter at all so i dont think it's considered essential

They're grand reliable cars but i don't do small petrol cars at all.
If it's going to be petrol it has to be fun.

As for fixing it i don't know really, well not in this specific case. If it's like the clocks in a Focus RS and some other fords, which had problems with stuff like temp. and fuel gauges not working or the speedo not working on some alfas then replacing the clocks should fix it but there may or may not be a better option. If that's the only thing wrong with it though i wouldnt bother, it's not like there's any massive need to know the RPM in a normal everyday runaround car

I know of ALmera's that have this problem with the rev counter for years. It hasn't been a sign of any other problems and it will pass the NCT just fine.

From one that I tried to fix (and failed), I can say that its something by way of a fault on the printed circuit of the clocks.
