    Hi all

I recently have come across this problem, where i have a .trahes and .DS_Store on almost every window I open. Now I managed to get rid of 90% of them my using the terminal and typing in the following command

    find . -name .DS_Store -delete

and this removed the .DS_Store from my desktop and other areas.

The problem lies is that when i go to use my compact flash cards to open my raw files (photographs) using Adobe DNG Converter. This was working fine up until these DS Store and .Trashes was appearing.

Everytime I insert my compact flash card the these appear, i tried to cd to the flash drive and remove the .DS_Store through the terminal, but everytime i put the card back in it reappears.

Can anyone help me on this? Thanks a mill

DS_Store files should be invisible within OS X (as should anything starting with ".") but they show up in Windows. They are used by OS X to store data about icons, folder settings, etc. Often you only have to open a folder for the system to create them - there's nothing you can do about this afaik. If they aren't invisible within OS X then something is wrong, or you've used some utility to make all files visible. Or are you only seeing them within Terminal?

    Hi Sad Professor,
    Thanks for your reply.
To be honest I dont know what I done but the file is showing up in every folder I open and when I try bin it it just keeps coming back.
I have been able to get it off the desk top and out of all the folders but its on my compact flash cards and I cant get it off them and when I use a card in the reader it re-appears in every folder again.

All info on this would be very greatful.

    Cheers Tom....

Are you sure you haven't been messing around with Onyx or TinkerTool or some other 3rd party system utility?

Anyway, first things first, I'd recommend you open Disk Utility and verify your start-up disk and repair disk permissions.

To make invisible files invisible again copy and paste the following into Terminal and hit return:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles OFF
After this you'll have to restart the Finder, either by logging out and back in, or by force quitting the Finder.

    Hi Tom

I can try this for you at the weekend, still appearing I guess? I think this occured when we tried to remove those hidden files off one of your disks. We used some command to view them and ever since then they're appearing, that correct?

    Hi Bedlam,
Sorry for not getting back on this tread sooner but thank you for your info and I will give this a try.
