Amber laquer painted bulbs

Hi, I just swapped out ALL six of my amber lacquered bulbs, not because they were blown, purely because the indicators were not "orange" enough.
The car failed the NCT 4 years ago for this very reason, the NCT is due in May & I thought I'd be ready this time!

    My question:

Can you buy the orange lacquer to re-paint the bulbs? It seems a waste to throw out the perfectly working bulbs. A quick google did not reveal anything.

That's a lot of bother to go to when you can buy 10 bulbs for £2 on ebay.

It does seem a waste. I know that we're in a recession but the price of a couple of orange bulbs won't exactly break the bank. You could always 'donate' your old bulbs to someone who can use them.

It's not the answer to your question but it's alternative solution ;)

I know I can get new ones cheaply but I just thought I might be able to recycle!
    ;)

I was considering getting the silver coated ones (a notion) but they are probably going to suffer the same fate.

The silver ones are good, my car went through the NCT with them with no problems.

What car is it? Can you get orange lenses instead?

Both my cars (BMW, see sig) have these bulbs, yes you could get orange lenses for both but I like the "look" of the clear indicator units (they came standard with both cars).

I don't mind having to change the bulbs it was just a thought that maybe these bulbs lifespan could be extended.

    I smell something fishy here...................a bmw driver.......using indicators:confused:

Are the lugs on the bulbs offset or straight apart? If they're straight apart from each other, you could try using them when any of your similiar shaped tail-lamp bulbs fail.

    There's a new one...

They are offset pins, so will not be suitable for other sockets, no similar shaped ones in the car. I want to ensure that they are legally compliant, but I thought someone on here might have come across the paint. I am sure there is a market for it.
