you will need some details from the old router like , user name and password for the broadband service, as well as dns settings and maybe one or two other things, all can be checked if you go into the bt router settings and check.

Then all you need to do is enter them into the new router.

Aye you can do it if you wish. BT may have a cheaper solution for you though.

No need to contact bt, just grab yourself a wireless router. This will connect to your modem using an ethernet cable (that's the cable you are connecting between your pc and modem now).

That's if he gets a modem router. If he gets a router he won't have to mess around with anything like that and it'll be about a tenner cheaper/.

Tis what I have done here at home anyway. Along with my Linksys wireless booster outside to increase the range.

You need to find out what the password for the wireless is. The manual should tell you what it is or how to find it.

    WHAT!?
am i getting this correct? €40 for a router? where from? i thought they sold for nearly €80 in shops? Curse you Argos and your overpriced goods! (family too cheap to buy one)

Yeah €40 would be the starting price for a wireless g router. You can get more expensive ones but €40 would be the starting price.

browne can ya log into the router,
connect to it usin a cable and put the ip of the router into internet address bar
the manual should tell ya what the ip is
look under security and it wil have a passphrase, take note of it
