Just looking for a bit of help tidying up a bike for a friend.
I've changed the brake blocks and cables and most everything else is okay but it needs a new cassette to replace the Sachs thats on it at the moment. What are my options?
Also the headset needs attention - hopefully just re-greasing - but it's fairly guntered and I don't have a spanner that fits so I may be back looking for advice on a replacement.

I just want to know what's the best cassette available to replace the Sachs that's on the bike at the moment. Obviously most bikes these days have 9, 10 and even 11 sprockets, index shifting and integrated brake/ shifter controls but this bike only has a 6 speed cassette and friction levers so I'd only be guessing as to what is suitable Would a 105 7-speed work?

There's some good info on Sheldon's website about upgrading older bikes.

    Have a look here:

    and here:

The short answer is you can't just stick a 105 cassette on this bike.

Thanks mrbike and welcome to Boards.
I had a feeling it wouldn't be so simple.
I'll check those links and take it from there.

    No problem Hermy.

If you just need a replacement cassette, it might be worth dropping into Square Wheels in Temple bar. Ciaran has a lot of old parts, and never throws anything out. You just might get lucky!

That's not a cassette - it's a thread-on freewheel. You can definitely get 6-speed ones in Halfords, and probably in most bike shops.
