Hi Everyone, just looking for some advice on what new road bike to buy..... I have always had a keen interest in cycling since i was about 16,done lots of cycling over the years and a few charity cycles 50km and 100km.. Now though only have time for a sunday morning spin just once a week for approx 2 hours just to try and keep fit as i am now approaching the big 40 age in june 09.. I am looking at either a specialized allez sport 09 model or a lappiere r lite 300 09 model both are similar in price, any advice on which is better and why would be great... Was thinking of around 500 euro originally but quickly realized u wont get anything good unless u spend around 700 to 800 euro.. Guy in cyclesuperstore was recommending lappiere r lite 400 at 1045.00 euro, its a beautiful bike but i think too expensive for my 2 hour sunday spin dont u think guys... I, need to get some gear, shorts, jersey, shoes, leggings, helmet etc also... I used to have a giant years ago but want to try a different make this time round...I cant believe the price of bikes nowadays... Any advice welcome....

You might want to consider used at that price, as it'll enable you to get something a bit nicer: carbon fork rather than aluminium, a nicer/lighter frame and better equipment. Or you could just save money to spend on nicer/more comfortable clothing.

Seeing as you've owned Giants before, this would be a good example: carbon fork and its 105 groupset is better than the Tiagra on the Allez Sport.

There are plenty of other examples.

Also, two hours a week is OK to start, but you'll have more fun if you stretch it to three or four (as you get fitter) - that way you get to go further and see nicer places. Just get up earlier. :)

Hi lumen, thanks for ur advice and help... That giant bike in the link u sent me looks pretty nice all right, Its 55.5 cm frame do u think thats big enough for my size i am 5ft 10 and a half to 5ft 11 approx.... I was thinking i would need around a 58cm or at least a 56cm frame for my height and do u think its a good price at 750.00 euro,it also looks pretty new...... I was just thinking more specialized and heard they are great bikes and am not sure myself..... Thanks again for ur advice.....

55.5cm compact. That's important, as the seat tube measurement is shorter on compact frames (as opposed to traditional geometry).

As for price, I guess bikes depreciate a bit like cars - 20% goes as soon as you take it out of the showroom, and they're worth maybe 10% of new price after ten years (very roughly).

Find out exactly which model number it is and compare to the new price.
