My Original Vista OEM Disc, Do I need it?!

    Hello!

So I have an issue with my Fujitsu Siemens V5545 esprimo mobile, it's no longer booting to Vista. With help from these boards, I was able to get my files off, but still no closer to fixing the issue.

I called Fujitsu Siemens and I downloaded a system diagnostics disc, which ended up telling me that there were no hardware errors. So clearly, the problem is the OS - Vista Home Premium.

So I asked the guy in FS if I could install any Vista Disc, and he said that they ship OEM vista discs with their laptops. I don't remember getting this disc at all, and can't find it in the box or anything. He said I would need to use the OEM disc because it 'talks' to my laptop.

Does this have to be the case? Can anyone tell me? Can I just use any Vista Disc?

Thanks! Sorry for the long windedness!

do you have a windows licence key on the bottom of the laptop, it should be there....if you have the key all you need then is to get loan of the disc of someone else and enter your licence key when it's installed...

You should be able to use any vista disk. When you put in your product code (find the little sticker on your laptop) it will install the correct version of vista for your system. Then just download and install all the neccessary drivers/software for your system.

You'll have to download drivers. They should be on the laptop manufacturer's website. If not a program called drivermax should help.

just turn on the computer with the Vista disc in the dvd/cd drive, you'll get an option to repair windows or install windows, use the install option if everything is backed up...
