Like the title says, give a brief description as your thoughts might help someone pick a game...I'll get the ball rolling (in no particular order):

GTA4 a cracking game, so open and up to the player to decide what way you want to play.
MGS4 its been a great series, for some the best ever on Playstation, the fourth installment is probably the best (although the first was brilliant and groundbreaking), with great gameplay and a very good story.
COD4 simply one of the best games ever, the visuals, story, graphics, mechanics of the game everything, best shooter on PS3.
COD WAW initially it felt more of an add-on to COD4 but having played on Veteran it comes into its own, the online games are excellent, especially nazi zombies!
Warhawk fun, crazy, annoying, brilliant. The first time I played I thought I'd never crack it, now with over 100hours gameplay I'm delighted I bought it.
Virtua Tennis3 another cracking game, this one nearly passed me but got it 2nd hand for €20, career mode and the mini games are superb.
PES09 master league and be a legend...utterly addictive, another game you can literally put 100's of hours into, question to konami what's with the lobbies online?
Unchartered Drake's Fortune again another game that nearly passed me, picked it up in Smyth's for €15, great feel to the game with excellent shooting and hiding, enjoyed completing Crushing.
Killzone2 bloody mad, great graphics, superb modes both single player and online but bloody mad!
Buzz Quiz Tv great fun with family & friends, looking at people trying to hit their buzzer first always cracks me up.

    Please share your thoughts

    MGS4

    Valkyria Chronicles.

PES2009 (I do want to try Fifa though).

I really enjoyed a shot of Burn Zombie Burn this morning too.

Really, I've gone back as far as February and I haven't seen any essential games lists, people have requested recommendations fair enough, but at least I made the effort to put in some decent games and give a brief description, thanks for your insight though fella, cheers.

    One quick search

Posted today, you even replied in it
Alright so I'm getting a PS3 in a few weeks with motorstorm and resistance 2. Just wondering what would be the 5 essential ps3 games to get(except for the two above games and MGS4) ? I already have a 360 so any multi-format games I'll be getting on the 360, so ps3 exclusives only.

    Thanks!

Looks like the PS3 is coming to my life in April, what are the 3 or 4 essential games I should have for it?

    Hi,

We've been lucky enough to win a PS3 (yippppeeee), it's set up but we onlt have one controller & 1 game. So I'm looking for some advice on what are the must haves for the PS 3 & ideally, the best place to get them from (happy to shop on-line).

I know we'll need at least 1 more controller...is it worth getting 2 (I have 3 kids), where's the best place & what should I expect to pay?

    Any game recommendations (12's ideally)?

Any other accessories you'd consider a must have?

Okay, lets see how things stand with respect to the quality of various PS3 titles. I'd suggest that we choose our five favourite titles and maybe include a sixth 'wildcard' - a game we love but can't say why. Try to keep things varied, don't just run with FPSs!

TelePaul's five 'Desert Island' PS3 titles:

    COD 4: Modern Warfare
    Fifa 08
    Oblivion
    Ninja Gaiden Sigma
    Uncharted: Drakes Fortune

    Wildcard pick: Condemned 2

hahaha not hurt but they are individual requests, at least this thread does what it says on the tin!

jackncoke excellent detective work, but you'd have to go into each individual thread to get people's ideas, that's the reasoning for starting this one.

    Out of curiousity what's yours?

    RSV2 for on line gaming.

Great runner and gunner and general bastardry , have had many giggles playing with some regulars on line , the usual soccer rivalry pops up and its great to send a team mate (whos team have just lost in the Prem) into an ememy room with out using their weapon and watch em get minced Another great punishment is get all 6 teammates to plant C4 in a pile on the ground and get the unlucky MANU supoort to stand on the pile and throw a grenade at their own feet ......some laugh watching them get blown off the map .:p

So for me RSV2 and all the messing is my nightly giggle .

    Mirror's Edge
I was really surprised at this. I picked it up for cheap after not really liking the demo, but the demo didn't give enough time to get used to the mechanics. If they make a sequel, focusing just on the speed and no fighting, I'll be all over it. It's got a good clean look, nice music, and a unique perspective. If you are at all interested in free running, then this gives you more control over the ins and outs of it than say, Assassin's creed, which does some of the same things, but from a different aspect, and with the game taking care of the 'work' part of the running for you.

It's a decent pick for a budget game, I think.

Uncharted - Amazing game with stunning visuals. Story mode is awesome and full of enjoyable things to do and I am sure anyone else that has played it will agree. Can not wait for the sequel it going to be truly amazing. If you have not got this game buy it or rent it. Should only cost 20-30euros these days.

Grand Theft Auto IV - Another awesome GTA game which lived right up to it's potential and the hype was all right. The game is full of things to do and the story mode lasts much longer than most PS3 games. Also finding the pigeons etc and that makes it good for replay value.

Killzone 2 - Amazing single player campaign with a great ending. People where disappointed with the first Killzone which I have never played, but when I first played this I was blown away. Everything is just so perfect, apart from Garza always dieing in single player and you have to revive him. Online multiplayer is the bees knees, although it is pretty easy to get to General (fully ranked for now) the game is full of badges etc which you unlock new great things and combine your badges etc with the way you play the game online.

Fifa 09 - Great game online, played alot of this during it's first release but have not played too much these days but the release of trophies has taking me back to playing it, and now my brother is coming back and we shall have a good few games of Fifa together as usual so should start playing online. Well worth it especially at the price it costs these days.

Burnout Paradise - Got this game for free off someones PSN account and I can tell you it is the best racing game I have played in along time. Full of trophies which are pretty easy to get and you can just keep racing and driving about crashing, just because it is fun when you crash and watch the replays etc. Fantastic game and well worth the 30euro which it costs now, oh and also the toy cars are hilarious, especially online I like parking up beside people in toy cars and laughing at them and honking the horn.

    Fallout 3
    Call Of Duty 4

of all the games I've seen on PS3, I think Siren: Blood Curse is the most impressive.

I got it straight after it came out. I waited for nearly a month but there was no update. It really pissed me off when I had to pretty much restart the game to find the characters alive.

Resistance & Resistance 2: Good gameplay but the storytelling is the main feature here, they’re both brilliant. Note: If you buy R2, try to play R1 first to so that you know what’s going on!

    Killzone 2:
Great game, fantastic visuals. And that verdict’s only after a few hours gaming!

Drake’s Fortune: Indiana Jones has got nothing on this guy! Collecting the hidden jewels etc. throughout the game keeps you coming back for more!

Rainbow Six Vegas 2: The dark horse, great all-rounder.

Fallout 3: The most addictive game on the PS3 yet. Fantastic. I found I spent most of my time trying to notch up the PSN trophies.

    COD4:
A single player that you’ll play over and over again, and a fantastic multiplayer.

Bioshock: There’s a reason this one won a bafta, it’s a classic. Mostly it’s the atmosphere it creates that makes this worth the money.

Finished Fallout3 about a week or 2 ago, great game, takes awhile to get into it but very enjoyable. Nothing in the game is hard but it takes some time to get through.

A few games to add to the list:

DeadSpace a game that nearly passed me but a mate gave me a lend, absolutely brilliant, you learn and see something different on each new playthrough, great fun killing the last boss, easy but fun.
Virtua Tennis 09 good game, some of the trophies are a bit annoying i.e. Gold Medalist - the number of online wins required, but overall an enjoyable game.

I've just started Far Cry2, too early to give any assessment but looks ok so far.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 188 ✭✭liverpo

Bought a couple of games on Friday, picked up Burnout Paradise for €20 wow what a game, brilliant, one I nearly let pass, its great fun, great races, my six year old boy is fairly handy at it too.

There's lot of new games coming up and I still have to get through, Far Cry2, inFamous, Godfather2 along with one or two others...can I cancel that sleep thing?
