Cleats wont fit

The only thing keeping me from getting on my bike are the freakin cleats. (Shimano SM-Sh11 for the R540)

The cleat mounting bolt appears to be too short to fully screw into the hole. It works fine without the washer but obviously the washer is needed.

This is what the base of the shoe looks like and below is what the cleats look like. The bolt has 8 rungs(?) I went into Woodies and they don't have anything like them. Can you guys suggest a bolt size?

Assuming you have tried installing the rectangular washers with the projection facing the shoe the only solution is to get longer screws.

Are you sure you're placing them the yellow bits on the outside? ( sorry :P )

Here is what you need ... i think anyway. ( none is stock ... but they exost, I;d say a good bet would be the cycle superstore or just your local bike shop )

Have you considered attaching the cleats directly to your feet?

There should have been a little booklet or a leaflet with your shoes to tell you what size bolt to use. I know with my SIDI shoes there is a booklet describing the length of bolt to use. Similar styled shoes shown in the booklet all required different lengths for the same cleat.

I wouldn't use a quick fix from a hardware shop. The bolt you get could be a close match but may end up ruining the thread on your shoe.

Exactly what type of shoe(Make and Model) do you have?

I'm guess your average bike shop would have some longer ones and would probably swap your ones for no charge.

Its something I would buy from a shop rather than online, cos if you over compensate buy them too long, you might screw them up into the sole of your shoe and you would feel them underfoot.
