    Hi Guys,
Im travelling to Thailand with my girlfriend in July and am just looking for some tips on what to do there, places to go and must see places??
We're planning on going for a little over 3 weeks and want to get a bit of variety, with looking around bangkok for a few days, do a bit of shopping and that, going to the islands to chill out and do a bit of partying as well.
Looking to stay in hotels 3 star or 4 star, have about 2 grand each to spend for the 3 weeks, so we should have enough?
So any advice would be great. Thanks

I stayed in Shangri la in Bangkok, nice hotel. The hotel has different entrances depending on where you want to stay. I stayed in the Krungthep wing, has a nice view over the river. Plenty to do around the city, try and get in a muay thai fight in the national arena, stay away from the touristy markets, particularly the floating ones. There are much better local markets where you can experience the local culture and the local food.

As for the islands, I was only on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. There's little to recommend about Koh Samui, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. There were some decent beach parties in the evening but besides that I didn't like it, especially Chaweng. Koh Phangan was great though, more relaxed and chilled. Haad Riin is a nice little town and is where the Full moon party is. Great parties on the beach most nights.

Thanks for the advice.. What about the tours over there, maybe a four day tour? is there any really good ones there? would it be better to book with travel agent before going there or once i get there?

Book everything after you arrive, except hotel :) Book something off Khaosan rd before you go (or sukhimvit since your highrolloing ;)), you'll need a hotel name on your entry card at passport control on arrival. At the moment, most travel agents over there are struggling to survive so prices should be good. On Khaosan road (Sukhumvit will be markedly more expensive), have a wander through the various agents and check their prices, lots of tours ranging from 2 to x days available.

Hopefully by the time you arrive all the current turmoil will be over, but if not, leave BKK as soon as possible! Head to the islands, any will do (although Samui is more like spain these days). Phi Phi island resort is pretty much best hotel at Phi Phi, although it is a boat ride away from the nightlife!

Koh Tao is definitely my favourite island. I'd highly recommend you do a SCUBA diving course, it's awesome!

I second the dive course, it's a great way to meet people and a fun way to spend a few days. We went with Buddha View on Koh Tao, highly recommended!!!

Please try avoid doing elephant treks (although they're advertised everywhere). It's a horrible, cruel industry over there.

I stayed in the Majestic Grande in Sukhumvit. Couldn't recommend it more. Take a look at asiarooms.com for prices and reviews etc.

Assuming things came down, a few things I would recommend to do in Bangkok are; go to a Muay Thai fight night in one of the stadiums and have a look around Chinatown. Also Wat Arun and the Grand Palace along the river.
