I have certain albums that when played on my ipod are twice the volume as normal.
Aaaaaand it is impossible to order some of them too, the ipod seems to ignore the track numbers and throw them in randomly.

    Has anyone ever experienced this?

Sounds like your albums have been encoded at different bitrate/volumes and they arn't properly ID3 tagged.

There's probably some sort of volume limiter function you can use (don't use an ipod so not sure) and albums can probably be tagged in itunes (i use a program called dbpoweramp to tag any incorrectly tagged albums in my library)
