Do You Have Friday Off?

Just wondering who gets Friday off? A lot of people seem to be of the opinion that they're entitled to it, though Easter Monday is the only recognised holiday.

As I was watching a company I was in with this afternoon emptying out from around 4.30pm I was wondering if anyone'd heard there was a recession on and we need all the productivity we can get...

Im working friday AND Monday! Monday was optional but friday isnt tho

We get Friday off but it comes out of our annual leave

When I worked in the heathen UK for years, there was never any question of not getting Good Friday off because it was a bank holiday. It was only when I came here that it was pointed out that it would be deducted from my annual entitlement were I to take the day off. The irony!

When I was unemployed about 20 years ago, public holidays were good psychologically, because there was no guilt on those days when you got out of bed at noon.

First Good Friday off since I was 14. Worked in family chipper. Good Friday used to be fish and chip Christmas!!!! Busiest day of whole year. Spend all week getting ready for it. Only days off were - Christmas Day, St Stevens Day and EAster Sunday. Worked every other bank holiday as felt I couldnt refuse. Chipper losed in the Summer and was made redundant. Now I have loads fo time off but cant afford to anywhere, Oh the irony!!!!

We were initially told we'd have it off, but lose an annual leave day, but they changed their mind, and now they are bringing us in for a sales training day in an effort to make us work harder in future.

I didn't have the heart to tell them that no one thats doing the course cares and will not be listening.

Half day tomorrow
THey give us a company day to use - typically taken as a half day Good Friday and a half day Christmas Eve (could have taken a full day but then would had to have worked a full day on Christmas Eve)
Not too pushed as I have some work to be done and I'll only have to do a few hours

Never work Good Friday. Not for religious reasons, just I remember when I was a kid in "good oul Ireland" and the whole town just went eerily quiet on Good Friday. I dunno, I like that one day of the year(with Xmas day) is just let's chill and consider whatever one needs to consider. Life is not a dash it's a journey.

All that said I do have my beer stock in for tomorrow.

Good Friday is a bank holiday here so most people are off work. It does mean a lot of things are closed but not the pubs. The only problem is most places charge a 15% surcharge on bank holidays to make up for paying staff extra (it's a ridiculous thing the NZ government brought in) so there'll be no eating/drinking out for me today or Monday. 15% - what bollix.

Drove into work this morning only to find the building locked up.

I work in the same building as 2 other businesses.. obviously no-one let the security guard know we'd be working on Good Friday.

Amazing how many people think it's a god given right to get the Friday off. Still, I like it, nobody ringing me for anything, office is quiet and a good time to reflect on life, the universe and how the hell to survive this bloody recession.

Working for a godless US company so no day off for me. But I'm working from home today so basically I can do my job without getting out of bed. I'll finish up around 5, get out of bed and start drinking the booze I bought yesterday. I took Tuesday off too so I have a few days to lose in an alcoholic haze. \o/
