    Hi all,
Is anyone on here competing in Rás Mumhan? It looks like a serious event.

"The event is scheduled for 435 Kilometers (272 miles) and 23 categorised climbs await the 130 plus rider field".

Will an event like this draw many crowds?

I'm off to RAS Mumhan as team manager. In my club we have to take turns doing this, we have a fairly strong team in Gorey, perhaps not as strong as the team we sent that got 2nd, 3rd and 4th place last year, but they should do ok and I wasn't going to improve it, so I figured I'd get my "tour of duty" out of the way this weekend. Its not bad, you get a race radio so although you are in the cavalcade you usually know more about whats going on than the main bunch do.

I tell you what though, I'd rather do all the stages of Gorey in one day than have to do stage 2 or 3 of Ras Mumhan. Goreys a great race (will be mad this year with 210 entrants, some of our riders don't want to bring their best bikes in anticipation of all the carnage !), but Ras Mumhan really seperates the men from the boys. Fair play to any non-A riders brave enough to take it on. I did it last year too and it was amazing to see A riders, including household names and the An Post lads shelled out the back halfway through the stage forming Grupetto's 15 minutes down with fellas who were winning A races in the weeks leading up to it. That being said, last year a member of my club was trying to prove a point and did win 3 out of 4 stages (giving the one he missed to a teammate), so it was an exceptionally difficult edition of the race.

That being said, now that I think of it my TT bike and a spare set of wheels will be competing in Gorey. About time it got a little bit of use.

Best of luck this weekend guys.

Is it normal to have what seems like 2 quite large races on the same weekend? Or are they targeted at different levels? Am I right in assuming that Rás Mumhan is for A category and Gorey for all below or do category A race in Gorey too? Pardon my ignorance on this. I wouldn't even know Rás Mumhan is on only a lad at work is racing in it and he was showing me the print outs of the stages. Scary!

Gorey is for B's and below, no A's are allowed into Gorey.

Rás Mumhan is for everyone, all A's and below.

Since they are on the same wend most b's & c's do Gorey, as alot of top nationals and foreign teams do Rás Mumhan, and also Gorey has a history of being a good race in itself.
