Let us know how you doing.

    Enjoy :D

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    The first question:
How many factories BMW uses to produce cars worldwide (BMW branded cars only)?

    The second question:
Where is produced the new e9x M3?

Makes me question the source / reliability of the quiz tbh ;)

I wrote the quiz myself based on extensive research and experience.
It is a fact there is 9 factories and that the M3 is produced in this one only.

But you never know, I might have done a mistake, if so please feel free to correct me, I will be happy to change the quiz.

    Cheers

Glad to say I guessed at least 4 of them, would be a bit worried about myself if I knew a lot of those answers.

Fair play Mick. How do you reckon that brake fluid becomes 25% less effective after year 1???

Also, what's the story with the 7,000 mile oil change???

    BMW recommends 15k
Based on experience but also a large number of feedbacks from BMW forums half of this recommendation works out much better.
The fact is that the oil is able to last even longer than 15k, but not the oil filter since it is made of paper. Thus it is getting the engine contamined with lots of crap. Anyway it is good to get new oil regularly, like in any engine really.

A good article with pictures here about this

    A "satisfactory" 11/20.

    Now, should I buy a E60 530d?

    Looking at changing my car and I like the E60 530d (2004 - 2005).

Yeah well the 530d is a fantastic car. If you have the means go for it.
Make sure it has the M kit, otherwise it really look cheap.

That's what I'm narrowing my search down to - M-Sport kit and automatic. Lowish mileage too.

I'm not too keen on the E60 without M-sport kit.

Can't believe you guys are doing well by making guesses :D
Either way you have a better BMW knowledge that you thought, or my test is not hard enough.

Bets score I have seen was 17/20, and the guy did it from a BMW dealer's office by asking his colleagues around :D

Sorry there was an error actually in the first question, number of BMW factories where BMW cars are produced. There is 8, not 9. I counted the MINI one initially for some reasons...

    13/20 - competent.

Brake fluid is changed every 2 years, according to cbs.

That's putting it mildly. Spark plugs? Paint codes? Oil capacities? There is a difference between car enthusiast and trivia junky, IMO. At least two of the 'correct' answers are also at variance with the information provided by BMW - my mother's E90 asks for brake fluid every 2 years rather than one, and wanted its first oil change after more than 25,000kms. And what do the Lemon Law and VIN questions have to do with BMW?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,782 ✭✭✭P.C.

To get compensation from BMW for all the pain caused for owning a BMW

Sums it up for me.:)

Well that's a BMW enthusiast quiz, you know this stuff or not. Not being able to answer some of those questions does not mean you know nothing about BMW, it simply means you don't know it all. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Now the real enthusiasts do well at this test, 12+/20 easy. People from BMW forums did much better than here. This was expected.

So yes people who don't know much about BMW will surely find this quiz boring. That is understandable. Ask me to do a Renault quiz...

You right it is usually recommended to change brake fluids every 2 years, but as a matter of fact (Explained in the first page of this thread) every 1 year is better. Or a bit overkill, depends where you stand.

Now BMW recommends oil change every 15k miles. Waiting 25000 mils is way too much. The fact the onboard computer claims different is another story. It depends of your driving style.

BMW service recommendations are based on the warranties and free services. Less they see you during more money they save.

Now the good sense and poor state of cars/engine/fluids contaminations/particules etc shows us that following BMW recommendations is stupid, spark plugs every 100k miles, transmission oil every 100k miles, engine oil every 15k miles etc...
Yeah that is the reason why they make big money after your car warranty. Your car is starting to fall a part because you have followed stupid service recommendations.

Wow, first an excellent, stimulating, relevant and popular quiz and then you reveal the level of your insight and knowledge into BMW engineering.
I for one can barely wait for your next post - how did this forum survive before you arrived?
If there was some award for the most interesting, easy to read and knowledgable posts on here I'd nominate you at the drop of a hat.
How often should I change the transmission fluid and engine oil on an e39 5 series?

So if you want to make some constructive comments by pointing us out to some resources or giving us some extra explanation instead of doing free pointless bashing, feel free to make an effort.

Now if you want to learn about BMW, be my guest, you can start by buying some books and reading some blogs. You are welcome :D

10/20, very anoraky quiz, if I scored any more I'd be looking at myself very closely. I'd also say OP that you should get someone to give you a hand with these type of things. Your english is good but you are getting the phrasing wrong on at least half of the questions and it doesn't give a good impression.

Never, I was hinting at the fact that BMW reckon the boxes are sealed for life and shouldn't have to be changed. Maybe that would be a good question for the next quiz?

Yep I was waiting for you to provide us again with wrong and misleading information but you just missed an opportunity to shine once again.

It has been a while BMW changed their recommendations (A few years now actually) about the supposely life time transmission fluids and gasket.

Therefore the official BMW recommendation is 100k miles and in real life it should be every 40k-50k

Now your friend Google will provide you with countless amount of relevant information about this.

This document alone is from 2003. Other than that thank you for losing people's time reading your Free bashing...
