Channel 4 HD & BBC HD in ROI +missing channels

Sky's HD pack is still 81 euro versus the 59 pound (65 euro based on current exchange rates) paid in the uk.

Surely for this extra 16 euro that sky are making on all their Irish subscribers each month they could pay a bit towards channel 4 and BBC to give us the Channel 4 HD & BBC HD services! along with itv 2,3,4 and BBC 3,4, News 24.

And before we discuss rights issues, channel 4 own the rights to most of their own shows in HD and UPC have bbc 3, 4, news24, etc.

There are no other players in the HD market here so they have nowhere to sell this content

I agree entirely with what you are saying re: the difference in the exchange rate

I see what you are saying but satellite rights are different to cable rights. You may notice that some programmes on Channel 4 still get blocked on satellite if you subscribe to Sky.

Yes, but most of the content on bbc 3, bbc 4 and bbc news is homegrown.

So why can't sky do the same for bbc3 & 4 as they do with channel 4.

Sky are now making an additional 16euro per irish subscriber, back in August 1997, Sky sent a letter to all their Irish subscribers telling them that they could no longer carry the cost of the difference in exchange rates and stated that the then 30punts full pack would be increased to 36punts.

Now the tables have turned, its funny how they completely ignore the irish people, are we in a different recession to the UK, the last time i checked, it looked worse!

There are non subscription boxes that can pick up all the channels you mention. You are correct to not be happy with Sky but until customers starting walking don't expect Sky to be too concerned.

Correct but CH4 HD needs a viewing card to view.:)

    Hi Guys,

    Did I hear you correctly,
Correct but CH4 HD needs a viewing card to view.smile.gif
Are these cards readily available for Freesat? Can I get a Discovery Channel (knowledge channels) viewing card for my freesat box?

Are these a Pay seperate option?

No unfortunately not. Freesat is no subscription. The card will only work on a Sky box.

No, it won't, I use mine specifically to get Channel 4 HD on my Mvision HD200, all you need is the correct CAM in the receiver (Currently Dragon/ T-Rex or Diablo)

Isn't the Mvision HD200 a waste of money now, considering the new sky cards are designed only to work in sky boxes?

Discovery are soon to launch a new channel called "Quest" on the english Freeview System(Terrestrial), next month as far as Im aware but there has already been talk of this being released on other platforms and Im sure Freesat would definetly want to add it to their listings.
