Pill question

I am on my 7 day break from the pill and usually get my period around the 5th day could anyone tell me are you still protected by the pill on your 7 day break or do you need to use other protection?

Yes, you are protected on your break provided you've been taking it correctly. There should be a little booklet with your pill explaining all that though, so I recommend reading it thoroughly, it's the only way you will know if you've been taking the pill correctly.

In the OP's defence, when I started taking the pill 5 or 6 years ago, I had exactly the same concern.

I read the booklet cover to cover and there was nothing that explicitly stated whether you were protected on the 7 day break.

I brought this up with my doctor and she assured me that the protection does continue through the break, but agreed it should have been in the booklet. She actually contacted the manufacturers and made a complaint and in an updated version, the booklet information does explicitly cover this question.

Im not sure that you are! Your not protected when you miss one pill so why would you be if you miss 7 in a row?

smileysurfer - you have obviously never taken the pill if you think this. You are fully protected during your 7 day break IFF you have taken the pill correctly in the previous 3 weeks.

I had exactly the same concern when I first started taking the pill. I brought it up with my Doctor and he assured me that you are protected during the seven day rest period.

Read the leaflet, check with your chemist or dr if you are still not sure.
