Where is the great man? He is unusually quiet.

Is he still on his "diet"?

Altogether, let's say a prayer for him. Health is wealth.

He can get his €260m or whatever he is worth now and shove it up his pampered, Clongowes arse.

I must agree,he is unusually quiet. My wife saw him in Dublin airport about 4 weeks ago and she was shocked at his appearance. She said he looked like a 60 year old. Although I must argue with the above statement,I don't like the man but must admire what he has built up,its a long way from a corner shop in Walkinstown.

Personally I think FR may have some problems that are still under wraps. Theres been a lot of media noise from them over the last 3 months, almost to distract from scrutiny of themselves. For example they are protesting the awarding of the PSO to Aer Arann for the Knock route even though FR didn't apply and CityJet withdrew their application. Also 2 senior executives have left recently (legal affairs guy and route development guy, both mermbers of the top 10 according to MoL).

I'm in not way claiming that FR will go bust anytime soon, just that perhaps their business model is suffering more than seems apparent to the public. They relied on rapid expansion to new markets and being able to greatly undercut established airlines, now the other airlines are chasing them and they are running out of new markets. They were helped greatly by the existance of the European common travel area.

Additionally I think FR have a problem in that so many people too closely associate MoL with FR. (many people seemed to think it was MoL trying to buy Aer Lingus rather than FR the company)Its doesn't bode well for their PR when he retires. He has stated that he will retire at the end of the decade, does that mean end of 2010?
And like him or loath him he helped to transform the European aviation industry so I think he desercves early retirement....just stop claiming to be able to run the country...he'll end up touring the world heckling world leaders like Bono!

[Deleted, no credible source, and substantial conclusions jumped to on the basis of a rumour]

FR is the designation for Ryanair. EI is lingus, BA British airways.

For privacy's sake, should the post mentioning ......, the 'hospital yesterday' post and even this post be removed? Last thing boards needs is some hack journalist writing a story on the back of this thread.

I've edited the offending post Stee, I agree with your sentiments.

You'd have to laugh at some of the posts deleted considering he does an hour in the gym most lunchtimes, a good paced jog on the threadmill too.

    Shock horror.

I don't think that's entirely fair or nice. Granted a lot of people don't like the man, that is a bit below the belt.

He has a definite look of a man with a serious illness that we are all familiar with, looks very gaunt. Would say he's fiercely private about things like that.
Even the most powerful people can be struck down.

You'll probably see a bit more of him, as some of his colleagues are leaving Ryanair and somebody needs to steer the ship (pardon the mixed metaphors). First Sean Coyle, now Jim Callahan. Who's next.....??

Bernard Berger the Route Development Manager has also recently left. MoL states last year that Sean Coyle was not upper tier management, apparently he was one of the 40 second tier group. However Jim Callaghan and Bernard Berger were definitely in the top 10 as mentioned by MoL. Who are the other 8?
    Mick himself,
    Michael Cawley Chief Operating Officer,
    Ray Conroy Chief Pilot,
Caroline Green was appointed Head of Customer Service,
Michael Hickey has served as Director of Engineering,
Howard Millar was appointed Deputy Chief Executive,
David O'Brien was appointed Director of Flight and Ground Operations,
Edward Wilson was appointed Director of Personnel.

He was on BBC's watchdog about 2months ago. Nicky Campbell came to Dublin to meet O'Leary to ask for his free flight - O'leary was drinking a litre bottle of water.
