Coming home from Leeds/Bradford today

    Hi,

I was coming home to Dublin (well, Kildare actually) from Leeds/Bradford today but the airplane was delayed by one hour at Leeds, with everyone on board throughout. What happened was that a group of people had apparently checked-in and even had checked-in their baggage to the baggage hold, but they never turned up to get on the airplane!

    Has this ever happened before?

    Kevin

Happens every day, in almost every airport.

People fall asleep/lose track of time while shopping or eating/get drunk in airport bar...

True, but the airport was fairly quiet at that point. It completely threw me off schedule in any case because I missed my bus from Dublin airport then. I understood why they had to make sure everything was in order though, because the luggage of those guys could have been bombs (It's possible... ...!... ...:o)

Huh? Your post was a tad incoherent. 'Pax' = Pakistani's?; and your work for Ryanair? It was the 10:50 flight (FR153 I think).

One hour is quite a long delay for this sort of thing, especially with Ryanair. The BD120 to Heathrow was delayed on Monday for the same thing, which amazed me, getting your arse to the Airport for a 6:40 flight, checking your bags in and then not getting on the plane?

Fortunately we only arrived 20 minutes late as there is a bit of padding on the flight time, but still annoying for those on board.

This would be one of the most frequent reasons for aircraft delays.

The checked in baggage need to be removed for obvious reasons, but also to comply with security regs, which necessitate baggage and passengers to be "reconciled".
Reason for the one hour could be that loading crews had left to attend to other flights and FR had to wait until resources were available.

On flights which use baggage containers as a matter of interest ie most Airbus a/c a numbered baggage stub is attached to a sheet allocated to the container so in theory one can pinpoint which container contains specific baggage.

Presumably there was not too much checked baggage, but rooting through 200-250 checked bags on your average sunflight can take a bit of time I'm assured.

I have made the assumption that Ryanair charge for checked nags for this very reason. the fewer number of checked bags the less chance of delays.

Also, not having seat numbers makes people turn up at the gate promptly so they get seats together etc.

Method in the madness I would say.
